RAIL SIMULATOR WORKING GROUP - EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST RECEIVED TO 06/03/00
Listed below (in no particular order) are all those who have currently expressed interest in leading or assisting with the programming of a new cab view train driving (engineer) programme. Contact details are included together with a brief resume of what each individual feels they could contribute to a project. If anyone on the list wishes to add or change what has been written or we have missed anyone off, please contact Vern or Robert and we will update the details.
NAME POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTION/EXPERIENCE CONTACT (EMAIL)
Stephen Pike My strong language is Pascal, but C & C++, BASIC, Modula2 and various scripting languages are moderatly covered in my experience....
I am designing a train simulator (since 1994) on my home computer...
BSc, MSc(Biochem.), PGDipSc(Comp.Sci.).
spike@biosci.uq.edu.au
Paul Lee As far as I'm concered we can integrate the SIMUDRIVE core into this project. Perhaps with enhancements and a re-write into C++ or something.
I've got very clear ideas on how to make it graphical etc. etc. we just need somebody to do the stuff.

Paul has expressed a desire to hear from anyone who is interested in working in a UNIX environment.

Josep Oriol de la Vega Hardware Engineering student at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), in Barcelona. Some C (in the different versions), BASIC, Pascal, Modula-2 and ASM experience (more in some cases than others). Could assist in applylying efficiency criteria to algorithms, and programming some functions (not involving graphics. josep.oriol.de@upcnet.es
Kris Vandeputte Translation of manuals and user interface into Dutch/French. kvdp@wanadoo.be
Alistair Ribands Assist in overall design. mribbands@cwcom.net
Robert Slagter I have programmed in BASIC for many years now and also a little bit in Delphi, and I think I can provide some help on physics and math. robert.slagter@club.tip.nl
Robert Shaw Please feel free to contact me, I can help with audio engineering, texture making or other artwork for scenery, rolling stock etc. rockhenge@ozemail.com.au
Andrew Larson I don't have any programing knowledge but I am fairly good at graphics design and editing. I'm working with Jon on the Toronto Subway simulator. alar17@yahoo.com
Jon Gulbis Graphical Design, audio editing and the creation of routes. Also some programming in Visual Basic and HTML. latvis@globalserve.net
Jonathan Boles I would very much like to help in the areas of testing, installation, and documentation. I could write the documentation for the simulator in either HTML or .HLP format, and write the eventual setup.exe program when the program is ready. I would also like to help with alpha or beta testing. mousewithglasses@mail.com
Phil Dominguez If you need any information regarding US railways let me know. I am also VERY familiar with electric traction (as I drive trolleys, interurbans and the such). I am at your service should you need me. Also, I may be able to "draw" some graphics for you. AcePhiljr@aol.com
Geoff Mayo Currently developing SimSig (British signalling simulation). Delphi and D3D experience. Would be prepared to co-ordinate the programming effort. g.mayo@virgin.net
Stu Rayner I can program in Delphi and C. I also have some knowledge of C++ and Pascal. I agree that frame rate is more important at this stage than detail. It is amazing what you can create with graphics that are simple, yet cleverly implemented. fundraiser@mail.com
Michael Wright Has written the Scottish Railrover "Basher" programme. Extensive library of British loco sounds including very loud diesels. mike@d-m-hall.demon.co.uk
Jeff Schmidt Has offered to draw up some dummy screens and a list of essential requirements to get such a project off the ground. A professional train driver with experience in drawing up commercial simulators. jschmidt@tpgi.com.au
Iskander Amavilio From childhood I love trains and its environment, but today I work a lot into low cost simulation (particularly flight and air traffic control systems). I gave contribute to Flight Simulator community by creating scenery, editing sound files and painting aircraft. amavilio@tiscalinet.it
James Brown I have a wide range of experience in developing 3d graphics. For example: train cabs, aircraft cockpits etc jbrown@skint.co.uk
Jason Morgan ...being a Signalman in the South of the United Kingdom if there is anything I can help with in the way of Signalling I will be pleased to be of assistance, I have also done a lot of routes for Railsim USA. jason@morgan158.freeserve.co.uk
Of course not forgetting Uncle Rob and Uncle Vern whose programming knowledge would fit on the back of a postage stamp but who do have considerable experience of the existing products and stand ready to offer such guidance and wisdom as we may possess.

The above list is by no means exhaustive and will be added to, what we would suggest is that people start talking with each other to discuss how development could now go forward. Feel free to use the Rail Software Forum to conduct any discussions. One thing which does spring to mind is that the graphics are the key issue. Everything else has to work around that. The lead programmer is either going to have to be the graphics guy, or understand how the graphics "engine" will relate to the rest of the work.
