Radio Devices on the Field

"walky talkies require talky, if the guy you are talking to is out of eye and ear shot, you never know who you may be revealing him to when you come over the radio." -Captain Clay

This quote above is what gave me the idea for this page. I said this in response to a question someone asked me about using radios on the field.

Although the Cimmerians, a highly respected scenario paintball and airsoft team, uses them, I think they present too many potential problems. The one in the first line being the main one.

They are fine if you are sure that you will not be giving yourself or the recipient of the message away to the enemy when you use them. However, you never know just who your partner can see that you can't, or how well the enemy is listening for that matter. For this reason, I believe they are only a viable tool within your own base or encampment in scenarios, or at night when it is unlikely the other team will be able to shoot the source of the sound if they hear it.

And really when you get right down to it, there are not too many times you would need a radio system, so you decide if it is a worthwhile investment or not...
