Economy

The economy of Lamb's Cove is based principally on agriculture. A wide variety of products are produced, both for domestic consumption and use as well as for export throughout Vexillium. They include dairy products, eggs, fruits, vegetables, decorative foliage and more. There are also many manufactured goods made from raw agricultural materials, mostly for domestic use because strict laws restricting the use of chemical preservatives limits long-distance export of some products. However, those same restrictions make Covian products such as baked goods and meats highly prized by people visiting from afar.

The most significant industrial exports of Lamb's Cove are dirigibles. These helium-filled airships have long been a mainstay of Covian travel; now they are becoming part of the travel scene in many countries. The airships are manufactured by Paxton Tire & Rubber Co.

The monetary unit of Lamb's Cove is the dram. (Symbol: Ð)

A dram is divided into 1,000 mills. (Symbol: m) However, in practical usage, the smallest coin in circulation is 10 mills. Coins of less than 10 mills have not been minted in many years, and almost all transactions are rounded to the nearest 10 mills. However, it is still legal to do commerce down to 1 mill.

Lamb's Cove currency and coinage was recently re-designed with special emphasis on the nation's agricultural heritage.

Coins come in seven denominations: 10 mills and 20 mills (copper); 50 mills, 100 mills and 250 mills (silver), and 500 mills and 1 dram (gold). Click here to see enlarged details of the coins.

Currency has also been re-designed, both for efficiency and to prevent counterfeiting. The 1 dram note has been discontinued in favor of the 1 dram coin, and has been replaced with a 2 dram note. (Old notes are still legal tender.)

Each denomination comes in a different color for easier recognition (which changes tone slightly from one side to another), as well as a slightly different size to aid the visually-impaired. The images on the front side show through as a watermark on the back. The images are framed in a gold-color magnetic ink. On the back, next to the full-color image of the Covian flag, is a small holographic map of the country. There are other safeguards on the currency, some of which are obvious upon close examination, and some of which are not disclosed for security reasons.
