The Vorlon War Destroyer was a ship created specifically to
fight the Shadows. As the periodic wars between the ancients'
pawns intensified, the Vorlons began to build ships specifically
for these wars. The War Destroyer is similar to a standard
battle destroyer, save for new armament built to fight the
Shadows. The Discharge Gun is removed in favour of a Bio Disruptor,
a weapon which excels at killing living ships. It's use against
non-living ships is null, and the Destroyer must instead rely on
it's compliment of lightning cannons. As a consequence to both
the weapons limited usefulness and the Vorlon's desires to avoid
combat, the ship was never produced in large numbers making it
rare at best.
Author's Comments
This ship is my take on the Red Vorlon Destroyer we see in
the initial battle between the shadows and vorlons. I created
in many months ago, but Wars of the Ancients has published new
rules for Vorlon skin colour. So I decided to make it general
knowledge incase someone fancies it. The ship has never been
tested in combat, so no point value is really known.
Bio Disruptor
Class: Molecular Mode: Raking(15)
The Bio Disruptor is a weapon which harnesses powerful radiation
and focuses it into a sustained beam in order to kill living
tissue. The weapon is optimized not to destroy the tissue,
but only to kill it, which in turn reduces it's inherint qualities
which make it suited for combat. By any standards the weapon is
also fairly cruel, as the nature of the weapon intentionally
intensifies the pain suffered by the target vessel. To put it into
perspective, a normal weapon might affect a ship as it would a person
similar to a sword or a knife. The weapon can be used against other
living ships with similar results, however against for instance
a vorlon ship, the pain effect would not register. Furthermore, the
weapon is useless against any non-living ship as
the inorganic materials will block the beam.
Special Rules
The Bio-Disruptor causes damage only against living ships.
When doing damage to a living ship; do not mark structure and
other components as destroyed, instead mark it in another way.
The structure is destroyed for purposes of the game, as it is
dead, however it is still apart of the ship. The structure can
furthermore absorb damage at a rate of 1 point per 5 "killed" boxes.
Components which are completed killed are considered to have no
armor. Furthermore, "killed" structure is subtracted from the
ramming factor at the rate of 2 ramming factor per 1 structure.
Killed structure causes pain to the ship at twice the normal
rate; thus it only takes 5 points of killed structure to cause
a ship pain in lieu of 10 damage.
Killed structure cannot be repaired by Self-Repair
systems until it has been destroyed.
Rules Example:
A Shadow Cruiser is hit by a Bio Disruptor and suffers damage. The
starboard side tendrils are all full, the molecular slicer has
been "killed" and 34 out of 40 structure boxes have been killed
as well. For purposes of the game, the Slicer cannot fire. It
can furthermore not be repaired. Let's say another hit comes
in, this time an FC for 19 damage to the Molecular slicer. Because
it has been fully killed it has no armor. It has 15 structure,
every 5 structure can absorb one damage in it's frail state
and so 3 damage is used to destroy the slicer. Next, the structure
armor absorbs another 6 leaving 10 damage remaining. There are
34 killed structure, 34 divided by 5 is 7, which means that it
takes 7 damage to destroy all the killed structure. The remaining
3 damage destroys another 3 structure.
Taking the example, now let's assume a Vorlon War Destroyer rams
the ship, the ramming factor of a Shadow Cruiser is 80. But 34
structure has been killed off. Thus, 34 times 2 is 68 which
subtracted from 80 leaves 12. If the Destroyer hits it will
ram through the ship with minimal damage to itself. (as per the show)
Furthermore, let's say a Shadow Cruiser takes 45 damage from killed
structure in one turn. Normally, 45 divided by 10 rounded down
would leave us with 4 paint to the ship. But because killed counts
at double rate, it's 45 divided by 5 which gives us 9 pain for
next turn to the Shadow vessel.
