During their early stage of growth, the Gaim were in great need of ships to help and defend their territories. They had been invaded by the Narn and harassed by the Dilgar, and they needed a means of defense. Relations with their neighbors, the Brakiri, were amiable. They received several old freighters from them (which they turned into the Tracha Troop Transports), but they were always keeping their eyes on the Brakiri military surplus markets. Several years later, the Gaim managed to come into the possession of several Ikorta Light Assault Cruisers which had grown too old for the Brakiri's liking. These ships were quickly taken back to Gaim space and refitted to serve the needs of the Gaim in defending their territories. All the weapons and shielding had been ripped out by the Brakiri before their transfer to Gaim hands. The Gaim refitted it with their own systems and readied it for service as a system defender to protect their fringe worlds from raiders and squatters who would violate the Queens' dominion. To this end the Boanith had its assault shuttles replaced by support equipment for fighter craft to aid in its patrolling duties.
