EA Omega Destroyer [Epsilon Model]

As the galaxy again was on a warpath Earth Force stepped up its building program. The Narn Centauri war was raging in full force and rumors of acient ships out on the rim Worried many in the Joint Chiefs. All of the current Omegas in the fleet had a good mix of long range and medium range weaponry except the Beta. Given that most Omegas opperated alone the lack of range for the Beta's armament was becoming apparent in Fleet Exercises. It was decided a new version of the Omega was needed to make up for this fault in the beta.

So the Epsilon Model was born. Given the Epsilon would almost always be operating in the company of a Beta it was decided to use the Beta as the starting point rather than the slightly different Alpha. The ship ended up replacing the Betas Medium and Heavy Pulse cannons with Lasers; however, the lasers required more power and a slight drain in power hampered the design-this was never satisfactorily fixed. The designers therefore made the power conduits able to handle more power in hopes that future technology would allow a reactor upgrade. This project was going strong until the Advanced Destroyer Project promised much greater firepower the All Laser Omega variant was put on hold. As a result this variant is still rare, however with the loss of most of the technology in the Advance Destroyers Earth Force is very likely to resume production of this variant-as it has proved a vital compainion to its betas.

It should be noted that the ship was originally designated the Delta, but a planned Advanced Destroyer Variant was being rushed to production so this type got the Delta-as it was thought they would be completed before the Beta Escort. The Advanced Destroyer Project was delayed and the Epsilon was actually finished first-despite the intitial designation changes.
