At the end of the Earth Minbari war, Earth was looking for new ship designs to defeat the Minbari in another war, the design they finally settled on was the Omega class destroyer because of it’s flexibility. One of the lower cost alternatives rejected was the Hecate, the Hecate was designed to be built using Hyperion class hulls. Based on experience from the War and the succss of the Artimis against the Minbari when it managed to get in close the Hecate was designed to close rapidly on the Minbari and survive their fire as it closed. It was decided that the small fighter capacity of the Hyperion could be sacrificed un light of the Minbari fighter superiority and the availability of carriers. Many of the forward weapons where sacrificed to reinforce the Forward structure, the hanger was sacrificed in favour of weapons . Railguns where added as the main weapon against Minbari ships and Medium Pulse cannons to keep Minbari fighters away.
