Elizabeth Montagu jumped down into the mud and rolled down the
hill. She stood up and looked out into the night and broke into a
run. She as surprised how fast she was able to run, but recently she
was amazed at the amount of strength she had. She had just been hit by
it one day. She was able to beat up her brother Edward quite well the
other day. She was only 14 and to be married off soon, and
Elizabeth felt she was not quite ready to do that. And with this
newfound strength she felt that she did not have to stay. And so she
left. However, she had not run what she felt was very far when she came
across another man on the road that lead up to the house. He stopped
when he saw her.
“Are you Elizabeth Montagu?” he asked.
Elizabeth did not say anything.
“Do you have a great deal of power as of late?”
Once again she did not say anything.
“I believe you have, have you not?”
She did not say anything.
“Since you lack speech, I will tell you why you have this power. You are the Slayer. The chosen one chosen to fight against the vampires.”
Elizabeth looked at him.
“Will I have to marry?” she asked quietly, not sure what to make of this. No one ever spoke to her as this man did. She also had a strong feeling something was going on.
“No. You will more than likely never marry,” the man said.
“All the better,” Elizabeth said. “So am I a Slayer. What may she be?”
“She slays vampires, saves the world from the demons that lurk,” the man said. “And I am to be your Watcher, to train you in the ways of the Slayer and teach you what you are up against.”
“I cannot read or anything,” Elizabeth said.
“You will learn. Are you leaving home?”
“Yes, never to go back. I made it look as if I was killed,” Elizabeth said slowly. “What are you called?”
“Timothy,” the man said. “Timothy Williams.”
“I see. Where do we begin? And what is a vampire? Are they little devils of evil?”
“One could say that,” Timothy said, leading her out of the grounds of the Montagu land.

SMASH!
Timothy went flying into the wooden table in the room. Elizabeth twirled around and jumped on the vampire that had thrown Timothy onto the table. She swiftly pulled out her stake and staked him through the back. She tumbled to the ground as the vampire turned to dust. She got and dusted herself off. She looked over at Timothy as he stood up.
“Do you know this would be much easier if I did not wear a dress,” Enid pointed out.
“Ladies wear dresses. Since the dawn of time and vampires the Slayer has worn whatever was worn in the times. You cannot wear men’s clothing,” Timothy said.
“Fine!” Elizabeth said. “Can I change my name then?”
Timothy looked at her. “Excuse me?”
“My name. Elizabeth Montagu. Royal name. They think I am dead. Elizabeth should be dead. I have been looking through some books. I have come across the name Enid.” Elizabeth picked up a book and read, “Derived from Welsh enaid meaning "soul" or "life". She was the wife of Geraint in Arthurian legend.”
“I do not know,” Timothy said. “But I do think we should get moving. We are supposed to get to China. The signs say that this vampire is heading to China. We are not sure why, but we should get going. We don’t know how far she is ahead of us.”
“Yes. Yet, I will be called Enid from now on,” Elizabeth said.
“Just Enid?”
“Yes, just Enid.”

Enid came running into the house where her Watcher and her were
staying. She slammed the door and fell the ground. She looked at her
arms, which were bleeding, and she was sure they were broken. Her dress
was in tatters and she felt like she was about to die. Her fight with
the vampire had not left her in the best of shape. The vampire was
stronger than any known vampire Enid had ever met. There was something
strange about this vampire. It used magic of some sort. There was no
way that Enid could ever beat this thing. She needed to be stronger to
do so. Flashes of the fight flashed in Enid’s head as she lay on the
floor. Enid flying through the air and crashing through buildings.
Valkyrie laughing at her. Enid shook her head and tried to pull herself
up.
“Timothy?” Enid called out.
Nothing. Enid called again. Enid stood up and went to the water bowl and began to wash her wounds. It was darker than black in the house, but Enid lived her life in the dark now, she did not need light. On her way to the water bowl she tripped over something that felt sort of soft. She felt around and all she found was what felt like a body and blood. Within moments Enid realised who the body was. She gasped.
“Timothy?”
“He dead,” came a broken English voice.
“I know that,” Enid snapped, in some shock.
“He dead. You come with me,” the voice said. “You are the one.”
“Chosen one,” Enid said. “She who slays the vampires.”
The man didn’t answer her, just held up a lantern. He looked at her, laying on the ground. He nodded his head and started to move into the house. He set the lantern on the table and then began to pack things into a trunk. He moved quietly and swiftly. He then took out what looked like a stick and tapped the things and they seemed to float. He pointed at Enid and told her to move. She stood and followed him out. She was trained not to ask questions. Slayers did not ask questions. Ladies did not ask questions. Enid followed the Chinese man without a word.
He took her to what she assumed to be his home. He showed her a room and a woman showed up and tended to Enid’s wounds and motioned for her to lie down. Enid did and fell asleep. When she awoke the next morning the Chinese man was sitting there.
“I make you strong,” he said, and held out a piece of paper.
Enid took it, but she did not know how to read Chinese.
“It is spell for you. You are the Chosen One to bear it,” he said.
Enid nodded. “Yes, I’m the Slayer.”
“No. You are Chosen.”
Enid did not say anything. Maybe he did not understand her.
“I do spell?” he asked.
Enid thought for a moment. “It will help me defeat that vampire I came across last night?”
The man was quiet for a moment. Enid made the motion of staking a vampire. He looked confused.
“Make you strong,” was all he said.
“Fine,” Enid said.
He nodded his head and left the room. He came back with a lot of things, followed by the woman with more things. They set things up. Enid sat in the middle of a circle they set up. For an hour and a half she sat there while they chanted. She started to feel funny after the first half hour. Near the end of the hour and a half she felt very light headed as a orange whips of what looked like water vapour appeared around her. It danced through the air all around her. She felt that it was something very strong. As it got closer to her she felt weaker and weaker. However, she stayed where she was sitting straight up. She fought the weakness. She sat up straight and tall. The vapour encircled her and then began to seep into her skin. As it did she felt stronger. She felt better. Suddenly she felt the strong ness trying to get out. She would not let it out. She fought to keep it inside her. She needed it. Suddenly all the vapour was gone in the room. She felt a searing pain on her ankle, but ignored it. Suddenly there was a bright burst of orange light that sent Enid wheeling backwards into the wall. Enid sat up. Suddenly all her wounds no longer hurt. She felt better. She felt stronger.
“Is it done?” she asked the man.
He looked like he had just been beaten. But he nodded and said. “Go no.”
Enid gathered her things and headed out to find that vampire who had killed her Watcher and tried to kill her. Enid walked the streets dragging her chest behind her till she found the alley she had fought the thing before.
“You came back,” said the voice.
“Yes.”
The figure jumped down in front of her.
“I never did tell you who I was, did I?” she asked. “I’ve been around since Christian time started. I saw Jesus die. I’m Valkyrie.”
“I’m Enid. You’re going to die,” Enid said.
“Really?” Valkyrie took a step nearer to her, then suddenly stopped. Her eyes got really big. “No.”
“Yes?” Enid asked.
Valkyrie stared at her as Enid punched her in the face. Valkyrie went flying backwards. When she got to her feet, she ran away.
“The spell worked. But she ran away,” Enid said, turning.

“Your Watcher was killed?”
“Yes, by a vampire known as Valkyrie.”
“And you killed her?”
“No, she ran away from me, Sir,” Enid said.
She was sitting in a large room in London. The Watcher’s Council was seated all around her.
“Well, the vampire is dangerous. We will have to stop her at some point,” someone said.
“Yes, till then we give Elizabeth a new Watcher.”
“My name is Enid,” Enid said softly.
“Oh, sorry. Enid, this is your new Watcher.”
The man stepped forward. He smiled at Enid. Enid just stood up and walked out of the room. She did not have time for this. She had to find Valkyrie. She did not understand why Valkyrie was scared of her. From what she knew of this vampire, she was not afraid of anything. Why was she suddenly afraid of Enid? What was the spell the Chinese man had put on her?

“Do you know what I don’t like?” Enid asked the vampire she was about
to slay. “Bunches of vampires. I want bunches of bunnies.”
She dusted the vampire.
“And that makes what for Enid? 17 vampires? How many more you got?” Enid asked looking around.
She had never found Valkyrie. After her first run in with her, no one heard from her. So, Enid stayed doing what she did best, slaying vampires.
The spell had been in place for two years now. Enid felt stronger and she now fought better than any other Slayer known of. She had also lived longer than any Slayer. She thought she should have died a couple times, but she seemed to keep going. She had not told anyone about the spell. She wasn’t sure what it was, and did not want anyone to question her.
“Enid, watch out!” her Watcher called out. She had stopped learning her Watcher’s name. In the last year since she had returned from China she went through about a Watcher every two months. They seemed to get killed a lot.
Enid ducked as a vampire came at her. He went flying over the cliff edge and into the sea. He’d be back. Enid stood up and staked the vampire behind her and then the one in front of her in succession. She wheeled around and kicked three of them in the face with one swift turn kick. She then flipped herself over the bodies of the falling down vampires and grabbed a near by sword her Watcher had tossed at her. She then took off their heads and they went to dust.
“Good work for the Slayer,” Enid said. She turned to see not her Watcher behind her, but Valkyrie.
“Hello,” she said. “How have you been, dear?”
“Great,” Enid said.
“I think the time is right for me to kill you,” Valkyrie said and stabbed Enid in the chest. Enid wheeled back. She stood up and pulled the knife out of herself.
“It will take more,” Enid said.
“I do have more,” Valkyrie said. She blasted Enid to the ground.
Enid stood back up. Valkyrie blasts her again and when Enid got back up was standing right in front of her. She stabbed Enid in quick succession with knifes in both her hands. Enid fell to the ground, gasping for breath. Valkyrie pushed Enid over so she was flat on her back. She took both knifes and pushed them into Enid’s neck. Enid felt the blood pour out of her and onto the ground. She could feel the blood flowing out of her body at all the wounds. Valkyrie noticed Enid was still chocking for breath.
“This will end it, I promise. You will not be who they will you to be,” Valkyrie said, anger raging through her eyes. “You will not do it! TRUST ME ON THIS!”
And with that Valkyrie snapped Enid’s neck. Enid felt the life leave her in that instant. Enid could still though, hear everything and numbly feel everything Valkyrie was doing. She was still snapping Enid’s neck back and forth, almost detaching her head.
“She will be deader than dead,” Valkyrie said. Suddenly Valkyrie stooped and got up off of Enid’s dead body. She pulled one of the knifes out of Enid’s neck and pushed up her skirts to expose her ankle. She proceeded to take off her boots and stockings.
“Cutting the symbol off will keep her from becoming what they want. She will just be deader than dead,” Valkyrie said, cutting into Enid’s ankle. “No symbol, no problem.”
Valkyrie took the flap of skin she had cut off and held it up. She then pocketed it. She kicked Enid’s body over to the cliff and dumped the body into the ocean. Enid felt herself fall down and hit the water. Enid cannot understand why she is still trapped in her dead body, but then maybe that is what happens when you die?
“Enid open your eyes,” Enid ears a voice say.
Enid opens her eyes and finds herself rising out of the water. Something set her on a rock ledge. She became aware she could move all her body and she seemed to be alive. But she was not breathing.
“You work for the Powers that Be now,” said a voice from somewhere. It was a dancing dream like voice.
“Whom?” Enid questions.
“You are to make sure people follow their destinies. Help them fight the evil in the world,” the voice went on.
“Alright,” Enid said. “What do I do?”
“We will let you know when our warrior is born. Hide yourself in this area for now. We will show you when it’s time.”
Enid floated back up to the cliff she had been on. She suddenly noticed there seemed to be a house at the edge of the clearing. She walked up to it. She pushed the door and realised no one lived there.
“Well, I guess this is my heaven,” Enid muttered.
