Note: He was a linen weaver in Rhinebeck and Jacomyntje lived across the river in Hurley at the time of their marriage in Kingston, NY. He was a farmer and soldier in a militia company under Captain Jochem STAATS, but the revolt did not spread northward. All of the children were born in Dutchess County except for the first-born, Petrus, who was born in Ulster County. Note: To his oldest son Petrus he gave "my large gun" and the "full improvement of
the farm." He left John "my sword" and "the full improvement of the farm." Isaac recived "the Improvement of a farm." He gave Cornelius Maasen Ostrander his choice of the horse, "either Stallion, Gelden or Mare." His son Hendrick was to have "all the
real Estate whereon I now dwell" after the death of his "Beloved Wife Jacomyntje."
During the time she lived, Jacomyntje was to remain as "master and Mistress" as if in his stead, with a third of the income to be given to her from Hendrick who was also to maintain for her "a good milk cow and a calf." In addition, Hendrick was to receive the two horses and all of the farming utensils. He left "the large Cupboard with the Cups
or Bowls on or thereto belonging and the large table" to his oldest daughter, Sarah wife of Samuel Ehring. "My beds, complete, Curtains, warming pan, large looking glass" were to go to his daughter Leah. Each of the children was to receive "a Silver Table Spoon." However, there were not enough of them so one of the children was to
receive "my Silver shoe Buckles" instead of a spoon.
The youngest child, Gerrit, died before the will was written. Prior to the will being proved on 31 Jan 1798, Jacob's third son, Isaac, left for Canada with his family where he was welcomed because of his service as a Loyaltist in the Revolutionary War.
