March 9 General Body Meeting

The meeting began at 8:10 pm.
Vice-President Natalya Bodrick began the meeting with the attendance report from the most recent Officers' Meeting. She then said that for the meeting on March 6, the following officers were present:

When she finished, the committee heads proceeded with their committee reports.
*Commitee Reports: The reports were as follows:
Social: Chairwoman Arian Thomas was not in attendence and President Keith Laing spoke on her behalf. He told members that Georgia Week 2005 was very successful. He aslo told members that there is a message board on the Georgia Club's website that members can post their thoughts and feelings of Georgia Week 2005.
Community Service: Chairman Eric Hall stated that on March 5, for Georgia Week, there was a Community Service Project at Wyatts Parks and that only three people showed up.
T-Shirt: Chairwoman Tosha Holmes told members the Spring T-Shirts were back and would be given out at the end of the meeting. Members who were not able to pick up their T-Shirts can contact Tosha by e-mail to pick up their T-Shirts.
Welcome to the Mecca: Chairwoman Stephanie Erhueh was in attendence, but President Keith Laing spoke on her behalf. He said that the 14th annual Welcome to the Mecca Weekend will be held from April 7-10. He told members that there are 46 kids and there needs to be that many hosts. He then said that he would pass around a sign up sheet for members interested in hosting later in the meeting.
Public Relations: Chairwoman Megan Lymon told members that the PR Committee passed out flyers and put up posters for Georgia Week.
Fundraising:There was not a report for the Fundraising committee.
*Georgia Week Wrap-Up:
President Keith Laing asked members their thoughts on Georgia Week 2005. Most agreed that it was a successful series of events, but members said that they were disappointed with the number of teams in the Put Yo' Hood Up!!! State Club Talent Show and with the slim turnout for the Confessions Part III Open Mic Night. Keith said that there were an additional five teams that paid to participate in the show who dropped out at the last minute. He also said that he was disappointed with the Open Mic night turnout too, but was thrilled that the event still ended up going well. He said that next year he would like the club to start charging for the Talent Show because he sees it growing into one of the marquee events on campus, but he said that before the club could do that, they'd have to find a way to guarantee more teams perform.
*Upcoming Events:
Spirit Day: President Keith Laing reminded members that the first Friday after each General Body Meeting will be a Georgia Spirit Day. He said that the point of Spirit Day was to show the campus how large the club is and to show off our various shirts. With that in mind, all members were asked to wear their Georgia Club hoodies, t-shirts or any other Georgia paraphenalia, especially those who purchased the newer shirts.
*2005 Welcome to the Mecca Weekend
President Keith Laing told members that there will be a parent interest meeting for the Welcome to The Mecca trip. The meeting is where members will be able to meet the parents and the kids who will be going on the trip. It will be held at Beulah Baptist Church located at 2340 Clifton Springs Road, Decatur Ga. Members are encourged to go and meet the parents and kids. He then passed around a sign up sheet for hosting and members that are hosting will need to turn in an extended visitation request form to their Community Director two weeks prior to the kids coming. The kids will arrive at Howard at 8 am at Cook Hall. Members were told to be at Cook Hall on time for the club's welcome. The kids will have a schedule during the day that they need to adhere too. They will be going on tours of the campus and the different schools and colleges. After their tours the Georgia Club wil host social activities that they can do for the evening. Thursday, there will be a dinner and movie night, Friday will be a bowling night, and on Saturday they will be going on a tour of Washington in the morning (host are encouraged to go but they are not required to go) and to Dave & Buster's in the evening. Members are responsible for their kid at night and must know where their kids is at all times.
*2005 Elections
President Keith Laing asked members who wish to nominate themselves, or already had nominated themselves, for the 2005 Elections to stand and give their campaign statements. The final list of nominees are as followed: President- Natalya Bodrick; Vice President- Shante Johnson, April McCowen; Treasurer- Derrick Dennis, Justin Horhn; Secretary- LaResha Ross, Tahira Spinks; Recording Secretary- Jasmine McNeil, Alexis Warren; Parliamentarian- Steven McCraney; Historian- Brittani Riddle. be read here. He said that only paid members are allowed to vote. After the candidates gave their speeches, President Keith Laing remined members that the election will take place at our April 6 meeting and that voting will be open to all paid members. He said that for members who were not present at the meeting, the candidates and their brief campaign statements would be listed online after Spring Break until the election concluded.
*Interim Historian Ratification
President Keith Laing told members that Historian Asheali Tanks resigned last week. He said that he had appointed Brittani Riddle as the Interim Historian. Members took a vote and with the required 2/3 majority vote Brittani Riddle was elected to complete the remainder of the term as the 2004-2005 Historian.
*Guest Speaker
A guest speaker, Tamra Byrd, gave a presentation on being credit wise to members who were interested.
