My Review Met Lizah at about 9.00pm at Lavender MRT and then we headed straight to Golden Mile for Mano. We had a few problems with the tickets but they got that resolved and eventually we were in the coach by 9.30pm.The coach was horrible. It wasn’t the one that the company owns, I don’t know why. It has this nauseating smell and the levers weren’t working so we had to sleep sitting up throughout the journey. And oh my god, the driver was speeding like a mad man, Lizah was up all night, scared of her life, lol. Mano was happily asleep, she even had her hood covering her face, smart girl! I managed to steal some nap but I guess I was too excited to get one. They made a stop at this place I cant remember the name, where we could freshen up and eat. We were there at around 1am. Lizah and Mano decided to take a pee break, hee…I was just too yucked out by the smell to pee. Lizah had tons to say about it though, but it’s all good. We arrived at Pudu Raya at around 3.30am and immediately were approached by taxi drivers if we wanted a ride. It was very late but the streets were well lit so we decided to walk. Armed with information on directions to get to our hostel, we made our way. It was really scary when we had to make a sharp turn to the left, where we had to go through what felt like a back alley and as if that wasn’t bad enough, a black dog decided to make an appearance and Lizah hang on to dear life by gripping my arm. I felt the love. Finally, after a lot of walking, we arrived. But the lady in the hostel, Hanis, told us that we have to check in at 10am since the previous guests have not check out yet. Mano asked if we could just hang around in the living room area cause it’s too dark to go anywhere else. We were let in, even though we felt like unwanted guests even though they were awfully nice to us :) There’s another guy in a wheelchair who was very friendly to us. Unfortunately, we never get to find out what his name is. And the embarassing thing is, I was signing Red Palm's guestbook and before doing that, i was reading another guy's review below me and he mentioned someone called Tilo and there i was, in my review, thanking Tilo! lmao! Whoever this Tilo is, haha... There’s a white guy called Jerry, who had been staying there for a year,[at least that's what i heard...accent so thick lah, haha] and he welcomed us in too. In the only couch there, a guy called Kamil was asleep, so we were worried of making too much noise. Hanis showed us around the hostel, which really is a bungalow, so it felt like home. After showing us around, she let us linger in the living room, which was awkward cause we were trying to stay quiet. And I keep staring at the computers they had there, wanting so badly to IM mare and maria, lol. Finally about fifteen minutes later, Hanis and the wheelchair guy [i seriously wish we had asked his name!] left, leaving us with Jerry who was preoccupied with his laptop and Kamil, whom we had christened Charlie, for some reason. We cracked a few jokes about being Charlie’s angels and once we were relaxed enough, Mano decided to turn on the pc. I got to chat with Mare for a bit and surf LD. We went to take a quick nap in the living room at 6am and woke up at 7am to find a lady using the net. From her accent, I think she’s from the US. Her name is Linda and she started talking about wanting to go out and have her hair dyed, lol. Took our showers and smsing Kelly to wake the hell up! Lol…Bear in mind, we have never met Kelly before, she came to KL earlier than us, for a school trip, lol. When we finally met, all of us were ready to go and have breakfast. This is only after 1 lousy hour of sleep. There will be no more sleeping until the concert! We decided on Mc Donald’s. Bless Mc Donald’s! I guess our first bonding session took place there. For some reason, we all clicked. Kelly is such an out going girl, you couldn’t help but open up to her instantly. And she’s very very independent. I see her as our very own little sister, but don’t ever tell her that! Lol…This girl can survive KL better than the 3 of us combined! I think she did a great job taking care of us, lol. Kelly talked about sleeping in the dorm room the night before and a man was asleep on the top bunk bed and snoring away, keeping her awake. She also said it was rather warm and mosquitoes were buzzing in her ear. We shuddered at the thought of sleeping there later on that night. We took our first few pics there and pretty much planned out our day. Right after breakfast, we headed for some window shopping and I had to hold myself back from buying stuff already, lol. We went to Times Square and went to Kenny Rogers for lunch. We were so damn full by then. I was feeling headachy, which I know I will definitely get from the heat. It was like a dead man walking from then on. I relied the rest of the journey to the girls, I was happy enough to just follow. The best part about being in KL is taking the trains there. It was confusing so asking around and getting the right answers felt exhilarating for some reason, lol. We arrived at Stadium Putra at about 3.30pm and went ahead to collect our booked tickets. That took a loooong time. At least to me it felt that way, lol. After that, we headed back to the canteen area and passed by the red carpet area. We saw an area with ‘public’ written on it, so we figured it’s a place for us to see the artists. We were on a new high, thinking BSB might walk there. At the canteen, I suffered a really bad tummy ache. The ONE thing I never wanted to experience when we only have a public toilet. It’s gross! So I was there for quite sometime, the girls didn’t complain, but I’m sure they were just being nice, hee. That was awful wasn’t it ladies? Blah to me! Lol Then we spent 2 hours just drinking lots of water and talking and laughing. I honestly have NO idea what we were talking about now, haha. By 6, we parked ourselves at the public area of the red carpet until the security guards let us in the area. We got first row and that was when the entire media frenzy started. I guess the reporters were bored of waiting for celebrities, MTV Asia came to the crowd next to us and asked who they were there for and we heard a loud screaming of BACKSTREET BOYS! Liza was already geared up, holding up our banner for everyone to see. So the camera girl took a video of us while the vj asked who we were there for and we yelled BACKSTREET BOYS! They asked why BSB? And We gave him a handful of replies, lol. And then they asked us to say to the camera HAPPY 10TH BIRTHDAY MTV! We messed up that one and had to redo it. OMG, we have our very own bloopers! Lol And then other medias came to us and asked questions and took videos and pictures. Liza is officially the media whore. She was ready for a smile whenever a lens is on us whilethe rest of us were shying away. Damn that girl is born to do it! Lol…We joked about how we’re getting publicity for BSB as well as for us, lol. Ironically, there were two girls standing next to Mano with their dad. It was their father who talked to us first. Asked where we were from and how we got there. We later found out he was from Singapore too and drove all the way there for his two daughters just to see BSB! Lol…so the girls are Natalie and her sister Sarah. We talked about the irony of us standing next to each and coming from Singapore. It was really nice. We met 3 other girls from Malaysia, I didn’t really hit it off with them. You know one of those fans who would go to anything to see the boys, regardless if the person next to you die from their elbows and butt pushing? Yup, those kind. I was really upset by that, and I know Mano noticed that too, lol. A bunch of celebrities walked by after that, we were told artists will not be on the red carpet, just celebrities, so that means, BSB will not be walking. But I later found out B2M did, so I don’t even want to know if BSB walked and we missed. That would be too painful! Once in the stadium, we realized our seats weren’t so bad at all. But the entire space in the middle were reserved for VIPs, that really sucks. They came in fancy wears and full on make up and sit all day, it’s such a bummer. We got side seats but it was near enough for a clear view. Our side of the stadium is where they put most of the VIPs too so when Lauryn Hill came out, most of them just started filing in and block my view! They would meet their friend half way and stopped and hugged and catch up with stuff, and I was there, watching their butts instead of Lauryn Hill, URGH! I endured it for awhile, Mano and Liza had gone to the ladies and the 3 Americans sitting next to us were playing with their seats, so when they rocked back and forth, I got rocked back and forth too. I know instantly Liza wouldn’t like that much, lol. Lauryn Hill was amazing. The first few songs was a bummer cause people were still trying to get to their seats so it was such a distraction! And then she started belting out Miseducation, and BANG! The familiar songs came out and the crowd ate it all up. That was awesome! Right after Lauryn Hill was Innuendo and Ruffedge from Malaysia. And then came Sheila Majid, Anuar Zain and Dayang Faizah… they did the last number together with Innuendo and Ruffedge. Next came Boyz To Men. Oh wow. Just WOW. When they started singing their old songs, the crowd was in frenzy. They don’t have a wowing stage presence but their voices blew everybody away. With only 3 members left, they sound as if they never really needed a fourth one. They started throwing roses at one of the songs…I think it was I’ll make love to you. We were bowing to their greatness, lol. When they sang Momma, they urged us to make a phone call to our mothers and let them hear it. Being that my mom doesn’t understand English, I figured lets not waste money, lol. Shawn was the best, he was in awe with the crowd, he doesn’t seem to want to leave the stage! They sang one of their new songs, and then classics like On Bended Knee, I’ll Make Love To You, End of the Road, Momma, Water Runs Dry. I think there’re 7 in all but I forgot, lol. After that was Ruth Sahanaya and Eric Bennet. Their performance was good, got nothing much to say, lol. And then it’s Wyclef Jean. He came in, sang a song and then said ‘Wyclef traveled 26 hours to come here so Wyclef don’t expect you to sit down. Everybody get up! Get up! Old man or not, get up!’ LMAO! Everyone stood up and we started dancing and singing. I don’t really listen to his songs, most of them were instrumental anyways, he wowed us by his guitar skills and sang that cute song ‘someone please call 9/11’ I love that song! By mid of it, he brought Lauryn Hill in and that’s when the crowd went crazy. They sang Ready Or Not and another one that slipped my memory right now, lol. And then Wyclef said something about something magical is happening on stage, the reunion of Refugees. It was an awesome thing to see them both back again. Wyclef made us flash our cell phone lights in the dark, it was such an experience to see nothing but lights in that huge stadium! Okay the other song is Killing Me Softly! LMAO! Wyclef won best audience participation, lol. After that, Nicholas Tse sang, and a few more Chinese artists I don’t know. I know Jackie Chan though, he got a huge response there, lol. After all that, we were getting restless. It was almost 1am and the BSB are not out yet, we were wondering how long the concert was going to last and if BSB will be left to sing only a couple of songs. And then it happened. Once the presenter announced Backstreet Boys! We rushed to the VIP section like nobody’s business! Kelly and I sneaked into a row of empty seats and climbed on the chairs, lol. The intro was the music we heard on B&B tour. The curtains were still shut and we were biting our nails, lol. Hurry the hell up already! The crowd was eating it up though, yelling and screaming for the boys. The funny part was, the area where we were, were flooded by guys. Like Mano said, Australian, US, Malay, Indians, Chinese guys…all flocking the area we were at, lol. When the curtains finally went up, we were greeted by the guys in a pyramid formation, looking down. Suave in their white suit and fedora hats. HOTNESS! They broke into The Call, during which we were told to get back down. During that whole time, Liza and Mano had joined us on the chairs, lol…so we reluctantly got down and went to another side of the crowd. Kelly decided to stay put and she asked the couple who was sitting there if she could stand next to them, they let her and even gave her a seat, that was awfully nice of them. Kelly had THE best spot to take videos, the VIPs in front of them were sitting down, which really wasn’t that bad for us, hehe…better view! Right after The Call, they went straight to Beautiful Woman, which was surprising, we were expecting them to sing their old songs first. Their dance moves were SHARP! I was weary at first if the guys were going to dance, I thought they were too old to be dancing, lol…but they didn’t disappoint at all. They definitely gave their 100% in both dance and sing. Even Brian, who would normally sing more than dance, was dancing in complete rhythm with the guys, they were in sync! Soon after that song, Howie came up and addressed the crowd. They talked about being happy to be in KL and thanking everyone for coming. Thanked the fans for sticking up with them and said the song they just did is called Beautiful Woman from their new album and asked if we like it. The crowd went crazy. The guys yelled ‘yeah!’ which really surprised me. Beautiful Woman is awesome LIVE. The beats were addictive, you can’t help but get into that song. IF BW was the first single, it would have done as awesome as Incomplete will. Howie then said they’re going to perform some of their old songs and then a new song. We know that’d be Incomplete, lol. They went straight into More Than That, which they sang and walked around stage to interact with fans. Nick I noticed, was the one that started flirting with the crowd almost immediately. Touching their hands and I don’t know, his stage presence just ooze sexiness. He was ready to hand out pelvic thrusts like no other. I also would like to put it on record that his ‘friend’ got excited and made an appearance. Damn. Brian was sooo adorable! He was soooo much better looking in person than in pictures! Goodness! When he addressed the crowd ‘Hi, I’m Brian’ the crowd screamed ‘BRIAN!!!’ and he went to a group of fans and yelled at them ‘BRIAN!!!’ LMAO! He made all his goofy faces and I realized the guys actually took time out to recognize where their fans are sitting when Brian pointed to this small banner right at a corner way up in the balcony and said ‘I see my peeps!’ that was sooo cute! Im sure the fans up there felt appreciated by his acknowledgment. Kevin was so damn hot! When it was his turn to talk, he looked at his wrist and said ‘its’ really late huh? You guys sure want to hear more?’ [something like that, I cant quote for obvious reasons] and the crowd ate it up, screaming and yelling YES!!! And hearing the respond, he said ‘ok then, we need to use the head mics cause it’s nice to have 2 hands’ and Brian helped to put on his mic on his ear, it was a lovely KFC moment going on then. It was SOOO adorable!!! Brian putting it on, like, you know, shouldn’t it be the other way around? Awww!!! And then Brian sort of dusted his shoulder off and Brian said something about having 2 hands, LOL…and they hit off with All I Have To Give! The starting was something we’ve never heard before but when the signature standing in a circle and bowing to each other happened, we knew it was AIHTG! The crowd went crazy at the hat dance, they received enormous applause for that one, lol. AJ didn’t talk much but goodness, he was sexy as hell! His sexiness is very subtle, he teased you and then did crazy stuff like thrusting and if you see it, you’re lucky! Lol…Those who said his voice is messed up really is messed up, lol…he sound awesome! Especially in Incomplete! He was wearing long sleeves though and we were surprised by that, but then we figured out, he might have been asked to cover his tats since M’sia is a Muslim country and all. They could tolerate small once like Brian’s and Nick’s but not AJ’s, lol. It was nice that AJ really didn’t seem upset by that. At one point, Mano said Kevin forgot his mic, lol…they were doing this circling dance, and Howie just sorta passed his mic and had this ‘you forgot your mic dude’ look on his face. Age finally catching up with the memory ay Kev? Lol… Howie pat on Nick’s tummy twice at one point, lol…they were sorta about to bump into each other and Howie just pat his tummy…and Nick doesn’t seem bothered by it! Lol…Stranger things have happened I guess? Lol Nick and Brian goofing around during Backstreet’s Back, that was classic for them, I love that. A lot of patting on the shoulder from the both of them. I don’t know why, but they seem to be on each others’ way a lot…so when Brian wanted to sing, he’d pat on Nick and vice versa, LOL During ALAYLM, the dance step had them facing one direction, and sort of running on the spot, lol…and Brian was singing his lead and by the time he turned around, the guys were facing him…Nick was the nearest to Brian, so it looked like they were running towards each other, it was soo funny, even brian and Nick were making faces at each other. During Incomplete, the guys introduced it as the first single off their new album so the crowed quieted down, the ones with seats actually sat back down, and the guys in our crowd were silent, lmao. When they sang, everyone was listening, except for the 4 of us, hehe…I honestly say, Nick was looking at us while he sang one of the choruses and had this ‘are they singing to this song already?’ look on his face. And they sang Incomplete, all of them. I made sure I looked at Brian, lol…He was singing damn it! In fact, in the 2nd and 3rd chorus, it was more of the guys singing rather than Nick standing out. He still sounded a bit louder but really, we heard them all. By the end of that song, Howie asked if we like the new single, the guys went YEAH!! The girls screamed of course. Did I mention Kevin was down to his wifebeater by then? It was a jaw dropping moment for me. They finished off with Backstreet’s Back, they had this dance where they were kinda saluting the fans, that’s what made them the best performer of the night EVER. They KNEW they couldn’t get the ‘hard headed’ audience to eat them up, they just went for the FANS first and foremost and hope that by the middle of it, the others will warm up to them and sing along. Which they excelled in doing. During IWITW, the entire stadium stood up after nick went ‘get up and sing! Get up!’ lol…and they killed the music half way and made us sing ‘TELL ME WHY!!!’ LMAO! Everyone was pointing their hand back to the guys, ‘TELL ME WHY!’ lol…they actually made that part long, so that audience participation got really heavy, until Brian decided to let us off and ended it, lol. This was the best part cause the guys took different area of the stage, hehe…those who got Nick was lucky, haha…cause he stepped over a platform that was supposed to hold this huge moving camera, and he was holding hands with the girls there…I swear I saw all the four guys looking at him and wanting to shake their heads. It was rather dangerous to do that, IMO. I also remember Kevin giving him THE LOOK. You know the look right? The one that said you’re in trouble for doing that! Lol…It was very brief though cause Nick was trying to avoid him and ran to the other end of the stage, lmao! By the time they held hand and bowed to the audience, I wondered [yes mano, we all wondered the same thing, sigh] if I’ll ever get to experience this again. I was going to tear up but I refuse cause tearing up means blurry vision and for the love of God, I want to suck in all the BSB memory in my head and not have it blurry! Lol…I noticed Nick was lingering around until the rest of the guys went in, lol…he was waiting for the others, haha…I do believe he went in with AJ. All in all, BSB put up the best performance. They won that category, lol. And for anyone who think they can’t sing and label them cute boys with no talent, they were proven wrong. Thanks Guys for finally making it back to Asia, a 9 year old dream has been fulfilled, we can stay content this way until you guys decide to make a concert here in Singapore! lol
Next was Black Eyed Peas, their performance was funny, lol…but the crowd was thinning away cause it was almost 2.30am. We didn’t wait for the last song, we left early and found the after party, we saw ppl mingling around inside and too bad, we didn’t get to go in, lol. Came back at around 3am and the Wheelchair guy and this white girl were there and they asked where we had been and we talked a little about FON and meeting BSB...and then we found 3 white guys in our dorm. All of them took the low deck so we had to climb to the top bunk bed, which I wasn’t about to do, lol. They had clothes everywhere, one of them didn’t even have a top and wasn’t using any blankets! Lol…so we sneaked into Kelly’s room which was in the attic. It was small but good enough for all 4 of us. Twice Kelly kicked my head and it reminded me of my sister back home, lmao! We had a fun time talking abt the show after that though and then the next morning, gushing over it all over again. We spent our last day there shopping [thanks to Kamil and his ever helpful directions and map!] and decided not to go BSB hunting cause we know we’ll never be let into the hotel they’ re staying at and KL is huge. We figured if it’s time for us, it will happen. We were just thankful to see them in concert, that had always been our main goal and we got it. We came back to the Hostel to find a few new guests we've never seen before, lol...we stayed in the kitchen and had dinner. By right, we shouldnt even be there but Kamil was soo nice, he said we could come back and take our bags and take a shower first before leaving. We didn't take shower but we did ask him about the cabs and the route to take to Pasar Rakyat. We left the hostel feeling very much satisfied. They were really nice people! I came back home armful of gifts for everyone back home and bought nothing for myself. My present is the memories I had of seeing the boys there, and having to experience it with 3 girls, 2 of whom I would never have been friends with if it hadn’t been for the boys themselves. And knowing that they are hardcore fans, made it even more meaningful. Thanks girls!
