After moving to Warner Robins in 1948, she worked and became manager of Newby's Department Store in Warner Robins. It was a combination variety and clothing store. Upon the birth of her first grandchild, William Woodson Douglas, III, she kept her grandchildren by her son Willam Woodson Douglas, Jr. until 1987 when her husband fell and broke his hip. The second grandchild by William Jr., Dena Marie, was fourteen at that time.

William Woodson Douglas (2nd generation) B: in Springfield, Davidson County, Tennessee (county seat, Nashville, Tennessee). He moved to Georgia with his family at about age 1 to 2. They first moved to Crumps Park, Georgia (near Macon) where his father worked at the Case Fowler Lumber Company. They subsequently moved to the Houston County area where the elder William Douglas had a logging business. The younger (2nd generation) William Douglas helped his father in this business and also cared for the mules and horses that were used in getting the logs out of the woods. He later worked for Bailey Burris Manufacturing in the Atlanta area where they made conveyers. He subsequently worked at Penn-Dixie Cement plant at Clinchfield, Houston County, Georgia where he met and married Ruby Lucille Niblett. He started work at Robins Air Force Base, Warner Robins, Georgia in 1948 and the family moved to Warner Robins at that time. He worked at Robins Air Force Base until about age 70, retiring in 1971. He never served in the military, being too young for World War I and too old (with three children) for World War II. He always liked to garden. In his younger years, before television, he liked to read paperback western novels.
