Shots were fired at two Atlanta police officers in related incidents late Thursday by a group of rowdy youths gathered outside a southwest Atlanta nightclub, police said.

No one was injured, but one bystander in a Volkswagen reportedly went into shock after four bullets hit the car in which she was riding.

The unidentified woman was treated at the scene by paramedics and released.

"The amazing thing is nobody got shot," said Sgt. David R. Yood.

Five people were arrested and two weapons confiscated, he said.

The incident began about 11:30 p.m. when Officer Sherry E. Lyons rode up on a crowd of about 200 youths in the parking lot of the 777 Lounge at 2960 Campbellton Road S.W.

Members of the "I Refuse Posse" gang were reportedly in the crowd, according to police, but officers said they were not able to confirm if the violence was gang-related.

Officer Lyons "was trying to clear the parking lot . . . and then a fight broke out inside the club," Sergeant Yood said.

A man came running out of the club with a gun and ran across the street with the officer in pursuit, the sergeant said.

"When they got behind a building, he fired two shots at the officer," Sergeant Yood said. She did not return fire and the man escaped, but she was able to provide a detailed description of his clothing, enabling other officers to make an arrest within an hour on Landrum Drive.

Daniel McCrary, 18, of 2086 Rector Drive S.W. was charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct and pointing a pistol at another.

"He still had the .38-caliber handgun," Sergeant Yood said.

While Officer Lyons was chasing the suspect, she asked for assistance and Officer R.P. Miniatis responded.

By that time, the crowd had moved across the street to a convenience store parking lot and a brawl had broken out, Sergeant Yood said.

As Officer Miniatis drove into the parking lot, two women in a Volkswagen were pulling out. Gunshots rang out and four bullets hit their car. Another five shots were fired into the side of the convenience store.

"When everyone was ducking, [the gunmen] jumped into a Chevy pickup truck and drove off," Sergeant Yood said.

Shortly after that, four of the six men in the truck were arrested at a nearby fast-food restaurant at 2194 Campbellton Road - "another hangout," he said.

A .22-caliber, semiautomatic handgun with a 100-round clip was found in the truck, Sergeant Yood said.

Charged with reckless conduct, aggravated assault on a police officer and discharging firearms were Timothy Jackson, 18, of 87 Harwell Road N.W.; Eric B. Simpson, 17, of 396 Brownlee Road S.W.; Franco Lacey, 17, of 680 Whisper Trail in Austell; and Ravi Krishaun Martin, 18, of 2900 Landrum Drive S.W.
