May 2004
GATLINBURG, TENNESSEE!! If you work hard and have faith, you can accomplish anything. And we proved just that. It took 2 years of fundraising, praying, sweating, and stressing, but WE DID IT! We rode into Gatlinburg, Tennessee in May 2004 clapping, whistling, and honking the horn to let everyone know that WE DID IT!" We visited the Ripley's Aquarium, Museum, and Moving 3D Theater. Unfortunately, many of the girls were too terrified to make it through the Haunted Adventure. We also ate at the Hard Rock Cafe. Kayla and Courtney had to stand in chairs while the entire restaurant clapped and chanted Happy Birthday to them. Overall, we had a super time. The girls mentioned that they would like to go to Pigeon Forge next year........
A big sigh.....we are finally CADETTES! The girls took off their Junior sashes, blew out their green candle representing the Junior years, walked the bridge, lit a blue candle representing the Cadette years, and put on their Cadette sashes. And of course, Ms. Tracey did the same after all the girls had done their part.

We practiced a flag ceremony too. We created a patriotic poem with all of our thoughts. We talked about our "roots" and some of us realized we had common ancestors. We learned the story behind The Star Spangled Banner and sang it too. We promised that we would never sing in the public! LOL!!! We discussed other American symbols besides the flag. I read a sheet on the dollar bill that
discusses the symbols and meanings of them. I think the best part was learning The Pledge of Allegiance in sign language. I had printed a sheet showing the hand signs. It was difficult to make out the signs. Maecy knew a little sign language and she tried to show the rest of us. Ms. Kathy asked an elder with the church who works with the deaf to come teach us how to do it for our next meeting. It was a whole lot easier to learn from him than from a sheet of paper. He spent 30 minutes with us and we had it down pat. This is one badge that ranks up there on my favorite list.

September 2001
We have started working on the Girl Scouting in the U.S.A. badge.
We had our 3rd Annual Silver Comet Rail Trail Clean-up today. We marched together in twos, carried flags, gave away American flags, and sang patriotic songs. We walked almost three miles one way doing just that! Each scout had two flags that she gave to the people on the trail. We had different scouts carrying troop flags, the service unit flag, and two large American flags. When we first crossed a busy intersection to get to the trail, cars honked, waved, and cheered for us. People on the trail were doing the same. Some people even sang with us. At one point when we were coming around a curve on the trail, a group of folks took pictures of us and clapped for us. We were exhausted by the time we got back to the park for lunch. We also did a scout's own before we left the event. Each girl lighted a candle and made a wish. Each of us told our wish to the group. Lorren wished for peace and I wished for girl scouts to keep growing so we can make the world a better place! Thank you to Lorren, Jenae, Courtney, Brooke, Stephanie, and Kendra for representing our troop at the clean-up.
