Practical Assessment Exploration System (PAES)
The PAES program provides comprehensive curriculum in four basic career development areas:
-Business/Marketing
-Home Consumer Science
-Industrial Technology and
-Manipulating Processing and Production.
After completing the PAES Program, clients will have the opportunity to participate in additional work-related training programs offered through SHARE. Our hope is that each client will complete this program with a feeling you will succeed in whatever path the client choose.
We are extremely excited about PAES and want each student and her/his parent(s)/
Guardian to be fully involved in this program. Our only requirement is that you, the Student, want to explore career options- that is the ultimate goal of our program.
We’re excited about you being part of the PAES class!
Building Occupational and Life-skills for Tomorrow (BOLT):
This program is designed to teach high school-aged individuals how to prepare for their first paying job. Program time is also dedicated to teaching some individual living skills such as hygiene, diet, cleaning, cooking, and social skills development. Topics addressed are both job readiness and work adjustment. The program is adapted to the client’s individual needs but usually takes between 45-90 days, 2 1/2 hours each, from the beginning to job placement.
Building On Occupational Skills for Tomorrow (BOOST):
BOOST is similar to the BOLT Program in that client employment is the primary goal and measure of success. BOOST, however, is more accelerated and meets for only one hour class period per day. The program concentrates on assisting clients learn how to find a job vacancy, how to apply and interview and other measures to get a job and, lastly, teaches the client the kinds of attitudes and behaviors required to keep a job. After completing the program, the client chooses his/her own job and, with SHARE Staff assistance, gets his/her own paying job.
Supported Work Skills Training Program:
Clients participating in this program learn on-the-job. In order to participate in this program clients must be enrolled in high school, although a few may be attending middle school. A Worker Skills Trainer places clients at appropriate job sites and remains on site to assist clients while they perform assigned tasks and acquire new work skills. Clients will not be employed nor receive wages from their job sites but will learn transferable job skills.
Work Literacy:
The training offered in this program is directed at improving the critical academic skills needed by the client to obtain and maintain employment. The client-driven program may include any or all the following: basic education courses, remedial education courses, GED preparation and testing, and functional literacy classes. The instruction may be given in a variety of forms from individuals one-on-one, computer self-paced programs and/or video for the visual learner. Note: the SHARE Work Literacy program is a satellite program of Warm Springs Rehabilitation Institute, Warm Springs, Georgia.
Community Work Adjustment:
This program is often done in conjunction with the BOLT and BOOST job readiness and work adjustment programs. Community Work Adjustment takes place on the work site after the client has obtained employment. A SHARE counselor is placed at the work site with the client to insure a successful transition into the work place. The Counselor may stay with the client as long as necessary and is removed only when the employee (client), employer, and Counselor feel comfortable with the situation.
Supported Employment:
The Supported Employment Training Program is designed with the more mature client in mind. Usually the client has finished public school or is 21 years old. The training includes job readiness and work adjustment, as well as emphasizing skills needed for independent living. Supported Employment counselors are available to the client and follow-up services are reviewed monthly for an indefinite period of time.
Career Orientation/Job Sampling:
This program generally is offered to young people making their initial career decisions. The course of study includes a thorough fact finding phase of the client-selected career field followed by on-site visits and ideally, non-paying positions within the area. This program is very individualized and requires client motivation to explore a variety of interests/technologies for the future.
