Commenting on the HRE's Letters

I like the site. I found the letters written by the executives in
response to Jennifer's letter particularly interesting. One exec used the "guilt
tactic"...saying something to the effect of "if we keep arguing, the only
winner is HIV." It's amusing how he fluffs himself up, pulls on his halo
and wings, and paints anyone who complains about the racism of Hotlanta's ad
campaign as a person who is standing in the way of HIV funding and AIDS
research.

It's quite illogical, really:

"We're being racist, but since we're being racist to raise money for HIV
and AIDS, it's okay!"

I love it.

I was a little irritated by the letters written by gay Asian American men
to Hotlanta, in support of Hotlanta. Something about "thank you for
including my culture!" and "I am honored!" I've read some research on how people
who are oppressed, colonized or enslaved often begin to subconsiously
identify with the oppressor in order to salvage their self-esteem. I call it the
"Kiss-Ass Self-Preservation Response".

Interesting stuff, very interesting.
Between Mr. Wong and Hotlanta... I tell ya...
