Peter McWilliams - Casualty in the War on Drugs
Peter McWilliams was a renowned author and political activist. He
wrote the best selling book book "AIN'T NOBODY'S BUSINESS IF YOU DO
The Absurdity of Consensual Crimes in a Free Country". He was active in the Medical Marijuana movement in California.
California approved Prop. 215, which legalized the use of marijuana for
the treatment of illness.
Like many who suffer from HIV he found that marijuana alleviated the nausea
associated with his medication. When California legalized marijuana
for medical use he started writing a book about how to grow and use
marihuana as a medicine. He was persecuted by the DEA and IRS
until his publishing company was ruined and he lacked the financial
resources to continue the fight in court.
He plead guilty to avoid a 10 year sentence. He was prohibited from using medical
marihuana as a
condition of his probation ,
and was tested regularly.
As a result he was unable to keep down the anti-AIDS and chemotherapy
medicine that prevented his illness from worsening. McWilliams was
found dead in the bathroom of his Los Angeles home, he had choked on his
vomit. He is a casualty of war. |
