Election Over - Now is the
time to start building the Libertarian Party.

Individual Projects There are several Projects that everyone can work on individually. Set a goal of doing one of these projects each week. Look at the Georgia Champions of Liberty 2000 Award to see if you have already done enough to be recognized.
Several thousand people read the letters to the editor everyday. Each letter that we get published will be seen by all of those people. If they see Harry Brownes name and the word Libertarian several times, they will begin to take us seriously. A large portion of the readers will already agree with us, and will be glad to read views similar to theirs. A few tips: 300 Words is the maximum that most papers will print, and a letter that is less than 200 words is easier to fit into to the paper. Cover one topic, and stick to the point. Mention Harry Browne and the Libertarian Party at least once. Include the phone number (1-800-777-2000) and the web address (www.HarryBrowne.org), so everyone will know where to get more information. Feel free to borrow significant portions of the letter from Harrys Literature, or the website. Dont feel that you have to persuade everyone that reads the letter. Our goals are to build name recognition, and to invite the people that already agree with us to find out more about the campaign. Lets try to get one Libertarian letter per week in the paper. CNN, GALLUP, and USA TODAY have been including Pat Buchanan and Ralph Nader in their presidential preference polls, but not Harry Browne. Getting Harrys name in the polls would add a sense of legitimacy to the campaign in many peoples eyes. Please write a nice letter asking them to include Harry in their next poll. Remember, this probably does not represent any media bias, and we do want Harry to be included, so be polite, brief, and thank them for their time. The people that you know will listen to what you have to say before they will listen to a stranger. We should give every one of our friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers (if appropriate) some piece of Harrys literature, and ask them to look at it. The tabloid works well, because it is affordable (3 for a dollar) and contains a good bit of information. You can mail tabloids to the people you dont see on a regular basis. Pick one of Harrys ideas, say about repealing the income tax, and tell the person that you really like what Harry says about repealing the income tax. The people that you know will be much more receptive to you than to just about anyone else. Write a letter about Harry Browne to each magazine that you subscribe to. Each one of us subscribes to different magazines and periodicals. Most magazines print letters that they receive from their readers. Simply write a letter explaining how the average reader would benefit from one of Harry Brownes proposals. Remember to mention Harrys name, the Libertarian Party, the 800 number, and the website address. Yard signs and bumper stickers serve to increase the name recognition of Harry Browne and the Libertarian Party. If you need any signs or stickers, call me and Ill make sure that you get what you need. If you know anyone that lives on a busy street, ask permission to put a sign in his or her yard. I still have several signs that need to be put to good use. Be creative with the bumper stickers. I plan to put one on my suitcase when I fly to Texas in July. Harry Browne buttons are great conversation starters. I wear a button most of the time (sometimes I forget to put it on when Im in a hurry). Its easy to talk about Harrys campaign when someone asks you about him. You can purchase Harry Browne campaign material from the store. It would be incredible to see Harry Browne in a debate with Al Gore and George Bush. Write a letter to the commission on presidential debates asking them to include Harry in the debates. This task is last on the list because it probably isnt as important as the others at this stage in the campaign (late May). Right now we should concentrate on building Harrys name recognition, and increasing his polling numbers. The commission will have a much harder time turning us down as Harry rises in the polls, say by mid August. If you have the time now, by all means, send them a letter. |
