This is what first sparked my curiosity in CD burners. This was also the cause of many headaches! If I could give 1 piece of advice to anyone just learning to do backups, video editing, or any thing else with a burner, It would be to READ, READ, READ; Everything you can get your hands on about what you are trying to do.
