Making Homemade Babyfood at Home

For those of you that have the time (and who's kidding, with a new baby that phrase is non-existent!) and you are considering making your own babyfood, it's not as hard as you think.

All you need are a few tools and fresh fruits and vegetables and in no time your baby will be enjoying babyfood that you made. If you read the labels on some babyfood in the supermarket, a lot have fillers and other things in it that I wouldn't want my baby eating. At least when I make it in my own kitchen I know what's going in it.

Here are the materials you’ll need to get started:

Pressure cooker
Peeler
Icecube trays
Ziploc Bags
Blender
Assortment of fruits and vegetables (I listed the combinations I have made that were a hit with my son)

1. First wash the fruits and vegetables and peel the skin off. Cut up the fruits and vegetables roughly.

2. Place the cut up fruits/vegetables in a pressure cooker with a little water (1/4-1/2 cup) on the bottom. If you have the booklet that came with the pressure cooker, you can look up how long it takes to cook the fruits and vegetables you want to use and the pressure you need to use. If not, I have listed below how long I cook mine.

3. After you cook the fruits/vegetables depressurized the pressure cooker and let cool for 30-40 minutes.

4. In a blender, blend the fruit/vegetable with the water from the pressure cooker until smooth.

5. Pour the mix into the icecube trays and freeze.

6. After fully frozen, pop out of trays and store in Ziploc bags in your freezer. Label if desired.

And there you have it! When you are ready to use, you can either take a few cubes out and let it thaw out on its own or you can put in the microwave oven for 20-30 seconds on high. Careful to stir completely to avoid hot spots. I've figured out that 2 lbs. of fruits/vegetables lasts about 3-4 weeks depending on your baby. It's so worth it to try it at least once. Also, knowing that your baby is getting the best babyfood possible is worth that alone.
