An Obituary for Alexander GORDON

1839-1921

ALEXANDER GORDON aged 82 years.

Death has removed another old identity of this district, in the person of Mr. Alexander GORDON, who passed away at his residence, Broomfield Road, yesterday after an illness extending over three months. Deceased was born in Banffshire, Scotland, in 1839, and came to New Zealand in 1865. He resided in Otago for a number of years, coming to Woodville in 1883 to do special work in connection with the building of the Ngawapurua Bridge and has lived in this district ever since. He was concerned in the building of many of the bridges in this district. He leaves a wife and family of three sons and four daughters, as well as 21 grand children to mourn their loss. Of the sons, Messrs. J. and L. Gordon live in Marton and Mr. G. Gordon at Kawhia. There are three daughters married, and Miss Gordon lives at home.

The funeral took place at the Woodville Cemetery this afternoon, the service at the graveside being conducted by the Rev. R. Gardner.
