Nelson

A beautiful spot at the top of the South Island, Nelson was settled very early on, around 1842.

An important town for my family history, with the FLOWER family arriving in 1842, on board the Bombay, Johann Seigmund Martin (Isaac) JACOBSEN also arriving in 1842 on the St Pauli, Hans and Anna JACOBSEN and three sons arriving via the Mariner in 1850, and the HUFFAM family setting up home in Bark Bay (near Nelson) after their arrival in 1869, aboard the Fanny, a barque they had hired.

A view of Nelson, dated 1903.

The following photos are all of Nelson around the turn of the century.
