GREEN HORSE, RIDER, OR HORSE/RIDER PROGRAM

UPDATED GUIDELINES

Effective December 31, 2001

The purpose of the Green Program is to provide beginning riders and/or horses the opportunity to become acquainted with the basic reined cow horse skills in a competitive, yet non-threatening environment. There are no restrictions placed upon horse ownership, breed, age, or training level. Horses must be shown in a NRCHA or NRHA approved bit. Once the Program has been completed, riders and horses should have developed the skills necessary to be a competent NRCHA exhibitor.

Exhibitors in the Green Program pay an entry fee and are scored based upon the execution of maneuvers as sanctioned hy the NRCHA and as modified below. Points towards graduation from the program are accrued by subtracting 120 from the total score (Reined Work and Cow Work) of each class the horse and/or rider shows in. Points begin accruing with entry in thier first show.

The Green Horse (and/or) Rider has two levels - Green I and Green II. Each level increases in complesity and builds upon the skills practiced each time the rider and horse enter the pen. Accumulation of 100 points in Green I, automatically moves rider or horse/rider from GreenI to Green II. Accumulation of 200 points in Green Horse/Rider Class (Level I and II boxing only) earns the rider a GRCHA Green Buckle and graduatino into the Green Rider Class (goes down the fence). In order to be eligible for the buckle, rider must be a member of the GRCHA adn 75% of the points must be from the Green Program. Non-Pro's moy only earn one (1) buckle in the Green Program. Graduation from the Green Rider Class is after 200 points are accrued going down the fence.

Green Horse Program - (down the fence). Points are counted on the horse for every class (Sanctioned or Green) the horse is shown down teh fence, whether shown by a Pro or a Non-Pro. Upon accruing 100 points, the horse must graduate to a sanctioned class.

Points accrue from all classes shown at GRCHA approved shows. Entrants may comtinue to show in their class for the remainder of the year in which they earn enough points to graduate out.

Association points will be kept on these classes for GRCHA members and year end awards given for four (4) classes. You must be a member for points to count for year end awards. For Green Horse Class the owner must be a member.
