Go Chamblee Bulldogs!

Women 5th, Men 9th at State

Both the men's and women's teams concluded their seasons at the State Championship with impressive finishes. The Women's team finished 2nd out of all the AAAA schools and was the top public school in the meet. The Men's team, meanwhile, finished 6th in AAAA, one spot behind Dunwoody and a half-point ahead of Lovett and St. Pius.

Individual finishes included a STATE TITLE with a new school record in the 50 Freestyle for Ruth Westby, runner-up Ruth Westby in the 100 Free, runner-up Dallas Snodderly in the Diving with a new school record, 4th place finishes went to Danielle Berish in the 200 and 100 Freestyle and the Women's 200 Freestyle Relay with a new school record. Additionally Andrew Withers (200 Free, 7th; 500 Free, 5th), Bryanna Berish (200 IM, 16th; 100 Breaststroke, 8th), the Men's 200 Freestyle Relay (7th), the Women's 200 Medley Relay (9th), Glenn Stewart (50 Freestyle, 12th) and the Men's 400 Freestyle Relay (12th) all earned points for the team.

This has been a great season for the team and thanks to everyone who has contributed to the success. A big thanks to the seniors who are graduating--we wish you the best of luck in the future!!!

Don't forget about the team banquet this week!

3 more records fall at Prelims

Three more records toppled Friday night at the State Championship Prelim session. Andrew Withers took down his time in the 500 Freestyle to topple a record that he set just weeks ago. Meanwhile, Ruth Westby toppled her 50 Freestyle record, set one year ago. Finally, the Women's 200 Freestyle Relay (Berish, Schlichting, Westby, Berish) record toppled after one year.

The teams both did a great job Friday. They will return to action Saturday night at Westminster so come and cheer them on!!!!

Diving into the Record Books

In his last competition as a Chamblee diver, Senior Dallas Snoderly captured a new school record and finished second in the State. His new record of 394.75 eclipses the old mark of 371.05 set in 1998 by Ben Dannaman.

Snoderly's strong performance currently has the Chamblee Men's team in second at State, behind Wesleyan. The team will return to action Friday February 20th, when they begin the swimming portion of the State Championship.

Including Snoderly's new record, the Men's and Women's teams combined have set five school records and two county records this season. Seniors Snoderly, Danielle Berish, Katherine Schlichting, Sophomores Andrew Withers, Ruth Westby, and Freshman Bryanna Berish have all toppled records, dating back to 1976.

Wild Championship Weekend produces New School, County Records; Women place second

The 2004 DeKalb County Swimming and Diving Championship was a memorable one for the Chamblee Swimmers and Divers. Led by several Chamblee swimmers who broke school and County records, the women finished as the runner-up for the first time since 1997 and the men rebounded from last year's fourth place finish to third.

New County Records were set by Ruth Westby (500 Freestyle, 5:08.27) and the Women's 200 Freestyle Relay (1:44.54). Additionally a new school record was set by Ruth Westby (100 Freestyle, 52.20).

Event winners included Andrew Withers (500 Freestyle), Dallas Snodderly (Diving), Danielle Berish (200, 50 Freestyle), Ruth Westby (500 Freestyle), Bryanna Berish (100 Breaststroke), the Women's 200 Medley Relay (Berish, Berish, Thielman, Westby), and 200 Freestlye Relay (Berish, Berish, Westby, Schlichting).

Both teams did an amazing job--every swimmer made it back to the finals and placed! The meet was a wild one, especially for the women's team. Throughout the meet, there was a very small point spread amongst the top three. The final team results are:
WOMEN
1. Lakeside 232
2. Chamblee 223
3.Dunwoody 207
4.Druid Hills 93
5. Tucker 87
MEN
1. Lakeside 244
2. Dunwoody 204
3. Chamblee 168
4. Druid Hills 80
5. Southwest DeKalb

Now the teams will begin to train for the State Championship meet, held February 11th (Diving), 20th (Swimming Prelims), and 21st (Swimming Finals). All sessions will be held at Westminster. Snoderly and Wertz will be the first to compete, participating in the State Diving Championship on February 11th.

The women finished the season with a 5-2 dual meet record and the men finished 4-3.

Three weeks ago, the teams competed at the Marist 6-AAAA Championship. The teams had several strong performances including new school records from the Women's 200 Medley Relay (Berish, Berish, Schlicting, Westby), the Men's 500 Freesyle (Withers), and the Women's 500 Freestyle (Westby). Additionally, Bryanna Berish qualified for State in the 200 IM.

Earlier this season, the Chamblee women took a 97-88 victory over the Dunwoody Wildcats (0-3). The last time that any SwimDawgs squad toppled the 'Cats was a 98-87 rout by the men's team on January 14, 1999.

Both teams started the new season with a bang-defeating Tucker and Decatur in a tri-meet.
