The camaro haven
My Camaro experiences...

Back / My 85 / My86 (current) / Technical / Email

Welcome to my Camaro Haven! I have been involved with Camaros for many years now and have enjoyed every one that I have owned. I have participated in SCCA SOLO2 competitions, road rallies, drag racing, car shows, and much more. Ownership brings with it membership into a society of like minded enthusiast. A friendly wave from a passing Camaro owner or the chance to chat with another at the local burger joint. It is a brotherhood in a way.

On this page you will find information on each of my 3rd generation Camaros as well as a few technical articles when I have the chance to post them. I hope you enjoy the page and please feel free to drop me a line.

Sincerely,
R. Sauer

My 85 Camaro
May it rest in peace

Purchased at a used car dealership with 113,000 miles on the odometer and dull paint, it was far from being a showcar or daily driver. After lots of work it became both. It participated in SCCA SOLO2 races, road rallies, and many car shows where it earned it's fair share of awards.
One fatefull day though, it met it's demise in the form of a Dodge Ram pick-up. It wasn't pretty as you will see below.

Before and after shots

As you can see there was substantial damage. The subframe was cracked in 3 places and the trucks rear bumper cut through the sheetmetal on the drivers side from the rear bumper up to the front of the door. It was driven home and managed to get me to and from work for a few days before another Camaro was found.

My 86 Camaro
"Jaws"

Given the nickname "Jaws" after a co-worked witnessed the nose peering through a thick cloud of smoke from a burn-out. The name stuck. This is the replacement for the 85 after it was parted out and sold for scrap. This one was purchased from a private owner who had owned the car since new. The paint was awfull and the carburetor was shot but it was a good starting point.
Once the carb was overhauled and tweaked a bit it was time to drop in a real engine and a fresh paint job. The following pictures will show the building and installation of it's current powerplant.
