MOVIE REVIEWS

AMERICAN PIE

Alright, where to start? I went to see this movie with one of my friends, (thankfully, NOT a guy). We arrived at the movie late, and walked in to hear the first of many crude comments that were yet to come.

(Okay, now I should have figured that the movie was going to be pretty bad considering that they only carded me three whole times just to get INSIDE to my seat in the theater). Well, basically, this movie is the equivilent to soft porn, definitely NOT a movie for the girls, OR a choice date movie in my opinon. If you don't believe me, then go see for yourself.

The thing that really got me the most was the message that the movie gave off: that premarital sex is no big deal. Personally, I don't think that that is a good message to be conveying to teenagers today.

If you really want to see this movie, I suggest that you do yourself a little favor, and wait until it comes out on video. Your wallet will thank you for it.

THE RED VIOLIN

My father and I went to a small artsy theater in Atlanta to see this film. We had both been dying to see it, since we saw the first preview, but we found that it wasn't playing in many places locally.

I'm not sure if you have heard of this film, because they didn't do a whole lot of advertising on it, but the film was done by a Frenchman by the name of Francois Girard.

Anyway, the movie is set up in five different locations: Cremona, Vienna, Oxford, Shanghai, and Montreal. The story is the tale of a violin that is about to be auctioned off. The movie starts at the auction, then to flashbacks which show you the history of this violin: how it was made, who owned it, and how it traveled around the world.

After each story, the movie flashes back to the auction, and it progresses just enough to build enough suspense, then it goes on to the next story.

Everything about this movie is superb: The scenery, the acting, the music, and the cinematography (which is absolutely amazing).

If you don't mind reading some subtitles in a few of the scenes, this is a must-see movie. Personally, this is the best movie I have seen this year, and I think that Samuel L. Jackson will be nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in this film.
