Dominica is an island of volcanic origins located between the French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. It is in the Eastern Caribbean, approximatly 15 degrees North and 61 degrees West. It is the largest and most mountainous of the Windward Islands. It is a great place to go biking and hiking. The mountains may look intimidating at first sight, but are realy nice if you are given a good path to follow. There are also many places to go scuba diving, and also kayaking is available. Dominica has a rainy tropical climate. The estimated population count of 1999 for Dominica is around 64,881 people. More than 90 percent of the inhabitants of Dominica are blacks. They are the descendents of slaves brought from Africa in the late 18th century.
