(aka- What you need to know to survive.)

You have to arrive with an OPEN mind.
It's also best to have a good attitude that has long range durability.
What You Should Bring

A CAR (No one likes the shuttles and a car gives you freedom)
Lots of $ when you first arrive (You'll definitely need it!)
An alarm clock
A small stereo
A cordless phone (not all apts. have phone jacks in the rooms)
Lots of calling cards (300 min. ones are great)
A small TV
A VCR (in VW a TV is pointless w/o a VCR; if you thought there was nothing on cable before, you haven't seen anything yet!)
Movies! (I can't recall seeing a video rental place the entire time I was down there)
A computer or laptop is nice, but not necessary
A journal (I cherish mine; it's also the only way you'll ever be able to remember everything you did)
If you like to cook, extra kitchen equipment is a must (the limited things that they supply each kitchen with is usually junk)
A laundry bag
Roommates
Roommates are assigned when you check in. The VW people have a list of the apartments in front of them as well as your preference (wellness or not, etc.). They then assign you an apartment. For example, if you and the person behind you are the same gender, and have the same preferences listed on your forms, then you will be put in the same apartment providing it isn't full. So make sure you're friendly with the people you're standing in line with, they may wind up being your roommates.
Respect is the most important aspect of being roommates. Without true respect, everyone will be miserable.
If you have problems with your roommates that are hard to resolve, immediatly go talk to the STAFF at the College & International Housing Office. If the staff is unable to help, or seems even the slightest bit incompetent (which may be the case), insist on talking to the head of College & International Housing; they can usually get things done.
