Letter from Ferris to Arnold dated Jan. 14, 1965
".....I wrote to the postmaster at Limestone Tenn where the Williams and McCracken families came from to Iowa. He said that Joe McCracken lived at Iowa City and could probably give me the information I wanted, so I went to Iowa City and found they lived on Benton Street . Mr. McCracken was some 90 years old at the time....... his wife was Theola Sehorn...."
"...Susan Sehorn was my great grandmother and had a brother John James sehorn who came to Iowa, with his wife Elizabeth, and sister Polly Sehorn in 1839"
" .....In 1850 John Locke Williams with his wife Nancy Barkley McCracken Williams and two children Amanda and Columbus , ......started for Iowa in a covered wagon drawn by two blind horses. With them were Ebenezer Barkley McCracken with his wife Nancy Caroline WilliamsMcCracken....in a wagon drawn by one horse. After six weeks on the road they arrived at the home of John Locke's uncle John James Sehorn, who had come to Iowa some 11 years earlier...."
".....I copied the McCracken family from the record in Joe's family bible but only know much about three of them - Nancy Barkley McCracken, my grandmother, and Ebenezer Barkley McCracken, my mother's uncle. David Kelsy McCracken family, who was Joe's father....."
"After visiting...I noted that I did not have the father and mother of the McCracken family so I wrote.......Thinking it might be on another page .....I had overlooked. ......said they did not know.........I have the obituaries of Ebenezer McCracken, his wife and those of John L. Williams and his wife and none of them mention any of the family beyond themselves."
"Edmund Williams will names ...and youngest son John Lindsay Williams. Dated Sept. 16, 1795.
John Lindsay Williams married Susan Sehorn Jan. 2, 1821. They had at least five children....."
From Sue
The info on the Henry McCracken page at the bottom where you have John Lindsay son of Edmund m. Susan Sehorn is not correct. this is a different William's family. John William father of John Locke Williams was not John Lindsay Williams.
