The history of the Cornish Rex is well
documented in many locations. We offer here the "quick" version: A woman named
Mrs. Ennismore living in Cornwall, England, discovered a curly coated kitten in a litter
of barn cats in the early 50s. Because she was working with a vet on curly/wavy coats in
rabbits, she recognized the "rex" gene. Kallibunker (that first curly coat) was
bred back to his mother and produced more curly coated kittens. Some of these made it to
the U.S. Nurtured by people interested in seeing this natural mutation survive, the breed
was developed and in the 60s accepted as a breed in most associations. The breed has
changed and been refined over the years but still bears that remarkable and unique curly
coat.
Though the coat and look is fascinating,
nothing can match the sheer magic of the Cornish Rex personality. Playful 'til death,
these curly coated cuties are constantly on the move. Whether dumb or bright their playful
antics keep new owners amazed and older owners coming back for more! These little guys
will come when called, fetch, climb on your tallest cabinet, leap on your back from above
and below, open doors, chew through the toughest bag, eat veggies, and crawl into your bed
at night just for some extra loving! Once you have a Rex, you never are allowed alone
again. You'll have a special companion for those long treks to the bathroom; help with
cooking, including a taste-tester whether you need it or not, and a ver special kitty when
you feel blue.
All this is why it is extremely important for
you to meet the kitty on his "home turf". Giving you the opportunity to see your
potential new best friend in a comfortable setting so he can check you out as well as vice
versa.
