Anything that I did in AP art class I'm calling general art. That goes for all sketchbook work also. Hope you like it!
What I'm working on now: Well, done with portfolio... now just working on getting slides up and ready!
Scratchboard horse - (Silver Scratchboard-- 1/97) This piece is almost four years old and still it is one of my favorites. Over the years I have seen white and gold scratchboards, but never a silver one like this one. What I found amazing was that light bounces off the strokes according to the way you hold the stylus. That's why I think the texture of the horse came out so well; when you look at it one way, his back is light and legs are dark. Another way and his neck is light and back is dark. This work took me a very long time to do, but I really love it!
A selection of Marti's shoes - (Graphite-- 9/00) We hung up a bunch of my friend Marti's shoes with...hmmm... I think it was fishing string (but of course I didn't draw it), put some lamplight on them, and drew them. I especially like the way the fabric and the boot's laces came out. The digital picture we took of it was a little dark, so I made the contrast and brightness better, and now the scan actually looks exactly like the real work.
Homework Still Life - (Graphite-- 9/29/00) I sat in front of the big double doors that lead to my back deck and worked on this one for two hours straight one morning. We took a picture of a still life with a digital camera and then printed it out and drew from it. The fabric in the background is actually nubbier and a lot less smooth than I made it look, because it's burlap. Still, we have reputations in my class, and I'm known as the one who makes things look smooth. So here's a perfect example.
Leaf and egg projectBlack and white digital camera version - (Colored pencil-- 10/27/00) I have finally gotten this made into a print to scan. This piece took me quite a while to do. It's in monochromatic colors, a feat which was hard because I had to judge which color blues corresponded to blacks and whites and all of that. Also, I worked from direct observation, not a photograph. This is surely one of my best pieces ever.
Girl in white conte crayon - (Conte crayon on black cotton-weave Canson paper-- 5/3/01) I did this while I was tanning out in my driveway. I LOVE Canson paper, and working in white on black really adds a new dimension to my work. Took about an hour to do.
Water and Water - (Black ballpoint pen on Strathmore Sketch paper-- 12/14/01) Finals time is always stressful, so around finals I find myself doing a ton of art. This was really a control exercise to see how well I could shade in pen, not the easiest thing to do. The people ended up looking like me and Russell, and since both of our astrological signs are water signs, I put water around the edges. I thought it was interesting.
Not much here right now, but I'm working on it! Really! There will be more soon. Thank you for coming!
