It's All About Me, Baby!

Well, this is the part of the page where I tell my story. First of all, my name is Ali. I'm 14 years old, 5'10", have brown hair and brown eyes, and virtually no life. That's why I spend all my time working on my two pages, this one and my N Sync humor page which you can find in the links section. Now that you know the basics, I'll tell you how I got hooked on the Goo Goo Dolls.

When "Name" just came out on the radio I was 10 years old and in the fourth grade. I still remember the first time I heard it. I was getting into my dance recital costume in the bathroom and I was listening to the little bathroom radio. Even though I was only ten, I knew what was good music, so the song soon became my favorite. But since I was only ten years old, it didn't stay my fave song for long. As "Name" eventually faded off the radio stations playlist, so did the song, and band, from my memory.

Cut to the year 1998. I'm now in the seventh grade, and I'm into all the pop music, ie N Sync and BSB. I was driving in the car with my dad and the DJ said, "Here's a brand new song from the City Of Angels soundtrack by the Goo Goo Dolls. You might remember these guys from their one big hit, Name." I thought, wow, that sounds kind of familiar, but I just can't place the song with the band. After hearing Iris, I knew it was my new fave song, but it drove me crazy that I couldn't remember what their other song was. After hearing Iris for the 100th time, I began to change the channel when it was on. But I was still a growing fan of the band, so I tuned into the Much Music spotlight featuring them. I heard Name for the 1st time in 3 years, and I knew I was hooked on the Goo Goo Dolls' music.

But, I didn't really listen to anything by them over the summer. My friend said, "Isn't Johnny Rzeznik a hottie?" but I would answer back with, "Not really. Are you insane???" Little did I know, come a couple of months I'd be more obsessed than her! Slide came out on MTV, and I totally fell in love with the song, and Johnny! I remember harassing the radio sation to play the song, but they wouldn't play it for 3 more months! Can you believe it? So, when it was my birthday in February, I bought the Dizzy Up The Girl Album and pretty much wore it out. I taped all their videos from another MM spotlight and actually broke the tape from rewinding it so much. I really liked all of their material, I realized, not just the new stuff, so I knew my interest in them wasn't another Hanson type incident.

Dizzy came out on MTV, and I swearr I thought it was a movie trailer. I changed the channel the first time it was on because I thought it was just a commercial with Dizzy playing in the background. Boy, did I feel stupid when I found out that was the video! By this time I already stopped listening to the cd and moved on to Joey McIntyre. I'll admit it, I have a really bad habit of only listening to the last cd I bought. I wasn't a very big fan of the video and I thought they could've done much better with it. So, I was ecstatic that Black Balloon came out as a video not to long after Dizzy. I love that song, and the video is amazing. Now I really started paying more attention to Johnny. I read some stuff about him, and it was really inspirational. I suddenly had an interest to take up the guitar. I can honestly say, if it wasn't for listening to the Goo Goo Dolls' past 3 albums, I would never have played the guitar. I'm still a beginner, but I dream that one day I'll be as good as Johnny is.
