FAKE GUARD BELT BUCKLE

Here is another example of a fake that can easily be proven as such. This is a common one which has several things wrong with it.

1. It says " ANDERSONVILLE". As mentioned, this was not Andersonville in ANY Confederate records. It was Camp SUMTER!!!!!
2. It shows 5th Georgia. The 50th Georgia was never stationed here for any reason or anytime. It was local to Sumter County and in Americus Georgia 10 miles South of Andersonville,,,, but this regiment was never here. The Guards who were at Andersonville in the 14 months of operation were the 1st, 2nd,,3rd, and 4th Reserves. These reserve regiments replaced the 55th Georgia Infantry who left here to go to Atlanta to attempt to stop Shermans march across the state.
Finally on this piece is the date. The first guards arrived here on February 7 1864 and the first prisoners arrived on February 25 1864. The date on the back of the buckle is clearly 1863.
