ME!

My name is Rob, my birthdate is 17/05/79 and I come from Warlingham in Surrey, but now live in New Cross, south-east London. Finished university in June 2000 where at University of Glamorgan in Pontypridd, South Wales about 10 miles from Cardiff, I studied Theatre Studies & Geography. Now working as stage manager at a holiday park on the south coast (not far from Portsmouth or Brighton) though ideally I wanna work in proper theatre backstage or elsewhere in the media at a technical level....

I try to go to gigs when I can. I like one day festivals like 'Pulp in the Park' in summer '98 and also the big festivals like 'V98 /V99, Reading 2000 and Leeds 2001 was the best yet (burning portaloos and mini campsite riots, riot police in full gear and all!), and Reading 2002 and 2003 were great too, though quieter than Leeds! Maybe I'll make it to Glasto soon if i can get tickets before they sell out (GRRR!)!!...

Me!

I'm quite fanatical about my music! Well, any music I deem to have talent behind the writing and performing, as well as the production, especially if done by the same people! I hate groups that just perform, can barely sing, and are built on the talent of other people in the background. Hello Steps! (YAY!!! They've split....so now...Hello Hearsay!! Or Hello Westlife! Or S Club! Yes, you are truly awful and killing music!!)....Therefore, most guitar based bands, innovative dance DJ's, good R&B + Hip-Hop artists and decent pop are my favourites. And anyone else who is talented but which isn't necessarily in my taste I can respect for their musical ability etc
My strength of feeling when I was 18 and more hot headed/idealistic(!) led me to be being banned from Virgin and HMV in Croydon! Fed up with decent (but small or new) bands getting only a CD's worth of shelf space in the new releases - whilst corporate commercial bollocks got a whole 5 shelves worth, I virtually cleared most of the shelves of Britney Spears (s)hit "Sometimes" and hid them behind other CDs in the store. I did the same for N-SYNC. In their place I put stuff like Llama Farmers, Suede, Serum and Witness. I did it twice in a week. I got caught in Virgin after I'd been to HMV and the plain-clothed store detective followed me. They thought I was trying to make it easier for a mate to nick CDs!!
When I explained, the more intelligent manager said to the other - "Oh, I knew it would be something like that". I said sorry, but I had to keep to my 'musical ethics' and they didn't want them in their shop!! Oh dear!

I`m a caring sort of person - my value system is "do unto others as you`d like done unto you" E.G Trying not to cause someone physical or emotional pain. Therefore I believe totally in equality, and do my best to support the gay rights groups, animal welfare e.t.c I am very passionate about my beliefs and will argue them to death...!! My friends say I can be argumentative and stubborn...ah well! I get on best with people who don't mind debates and can continue them without getting bored easily! I hate selfishness, and although we all can be, I'm talking more about greed and big business ripping people off, but also the general greed in society which prevents it from becoming a better place....

The only things I really hate are manufactured pop acts, bigots (homophobes/racists etc), and the negative parts of Christianity and religion in general. I feel that religion has much to answer for in terms of the worlds woes, and I firmly believe that organised religion and the resulting fanaticism and othodox strength of belief it can create is to blame for most of the problems/wars/conflict and general hatred and dirstrust in the world. I believe that without religion people would think more logically about what they really need. As you might have worked out by now - I`m not at all religious!

Beyond that I don't even believe in any higher being or any kind of afterlife. For me it makes it much easier - I can live my life for myself (though trying to help others or at least not harm their lives) rather than some goal or after-death thing that may never happen. I think people waste their lives and miss out on so many things because of their religious views or thoughts on what will happen to them after they die that prevent them form doing certain things. It causes guilt and all sorts of mental trouble and emotional instability and confusion (especially with gay people brought up with strict religious beliefs) in their lives that they would be better off without!

No, it's not for me at all. Well, except maybe an acknowledgement that there may be *something* bigger going on - but that it isn't a 'god' we must worship or be controlled by - it might just be luck that it happens how it does!

Me!

Of course, if people find comfort in religion and such beliefs it is fine. What I do object to is when religion enters government and thus removes the rights of non-believers or those who lose their belief in that country - namely most Islamic states and even many Christian (mainly Catholic) orientated countries...

I find my comfort and inspiration for life in (nice)people and nature. People have such an ability to do great things and show so much kindness, compassion and generosity and selflessness that it is beautiful. Nature is even more beautiful in terms of plants and animals and even just landscapes and weather. I find mountains and the sea very awe-inspiring. Dramatic, powerful, domineering and controlling.

I find the beauty of places like the West Coast of Scotland and the Highlands here in little old British Isles quite amzing. Last summer, camping there with a friend looking out to sea from the west coast mainland campsite overlooking the Isle of Skye, I sat for hours just looking out to sea. It relaxed me and helped me think, but it also was mysterious and dangerous. The noise and power of the sea, the vastness of the ocean filled me with a sense of the amazing power it has. It is a mystical thing for me....I would love to retire to a small Scottish island when I'm older!

Anyway....back to the general stuff!!
I`m very honest - some people get offended but I never mean to offend or hurt if I do so accidentally. The only time I`d be intentionally nasty is if someone was nasty to me. I do form opinions about people- everyone does - but they are always written in pencil (can always change).

Other stuff I'm into is cycling, gardening, walking/hiking/camping, internet, maps and EXPLORING. I like getting into abandoned or empty buildings and tunnels and having a good poke around! It can be quite scary, especially if you shouldn't be there, but always interesting. I guess there's a historical interest there as well. I've not had the chance to do that really since I found an old train tunnel came out onto my uni campus (from looking at old O/S maps) and had been disguised and bricked up! So I went down to the end of the car park which was in the old train line cutting (hadn't realised before then)and behind a storage shed at the end a hole had been made in the bricks....anyway, never made it to the other end cos the water got too deep over our wellies!

Me!

I'm also into reading about/watching disaster documentaries and films. Morbid I know. One of my fave films is 'The Posiedon Adventure' along with 'The Ladykilers', 'Trainspotting', 'Shallow Grave', 'Velvet Goldmine', 'Beautiful Thing', 'Dr. Strangelove' (and most Peter Sellers), 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch' and 'Das Boot' if yer interested!
Recently (Nov 2002) I have liked '28 Days Later', 'Rabbit Proof Fence' and 'All or Nothing'...And of course LOTR (all that long hair!), The Matrix etc!
You can guess what TV I like from the clips on the TV COMEDY CLIPS page! Add to that League of Gentlemen of course!

Me!

I set up this website because I felt that there was no real internet resource for gay indie and rock kidz. I wanted to create a site with information about gay indie/rock clubs, information about indie and rock bands from a gay point of view and a load of other stuff that would be of interest to gay indie/rock kidz.
I also wanted to create a forum where gay indie/rock kidz could chat or leave messages for eachother in creating the chat room and message board, though these are now not used - if you want to talk to alternative gay people go to www.bentpunk.com

Me!

I'm 5'8 tall with a 30inch waste. Have a dusting of light hair on the chest with a bit thicker hair around the nipples and trail from belly-button down (can't see it in the pic so it's not that much!). Sometimes shave around balls/arse... 'It' is average size I reckon, though people have told me I should say it's 'large'!

Anyway, the type of guy I like is quite complicated, yet simple. The simple is anyone basically good looking, not fat or too flabby - well slim/fit preferably, who is a decent person. My IDEAL is a guy under 35 with a smooth (well not too hairy) body. Quite fit, but thin like me is also a turn on! Facially it depends on your look. I'm not that into classic good looks..and some people I fancy are quite weird looking according to some of my mates! I also like more muscular guys with fit bodies who can be a bit older as long as they have good bodies!
Long hair is also a big turn on (but not absolutely necessary!), as are hairy legs and arse cheeks (again optional)! Also generally moshers/sk8ers/indie types/surfers/punks... and skinheads - sporty lads, sportswear/caps as `a bit of rough`!! Those are just ideals though, I don't really expect that in the real world...though it would be nice!!

Me!

The main thing, though, is that my perfect guy would like similar music, have a similar outlook on life and similar ideals. It's OK if he likes S Club, as I quite like the odd argument too!! Basic types (personality/attitude/outlook on life-wise) I prefer are: Surfers, Indie kids, Grungey kids and Skatey types. Anyone who's easy-going too (who can be serious when necessary), and the odd cute scene queen would be a nice surprise if he came up to me and isn't too bitchy! Boy next door str8 lookies too!!

Well, that's about all I can be arsed to write about me, for now. Email me at alterntativegayscene@homechoice.co.uk . If you want to chat with me I can often be found on MSN - email me to get my username alternativegayscene@homechoice.co.uk. Enjoy the site! //ROB xx
