Valentine's Home

Hi! My name is Valentine, I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on February 14th,1953. (that's right, I was born on Valentine's Day). I'm a real Sweetheart, huh???... LOL. I am Chinese/Portuguese/Hawaiian. I am 47 yr old, and a nurse. I am not a skinny woman...but certaintly not morbidally obese either...
I don't tolerate idiots well...and personally think stupidity should be painful (in some cases terminal LOL)...I love to talk and be around good, intelligent, kind, and not limited minded people...
I love nursing. I previously did psychiatric nursing for ten years, did geriatric nursing in a local nursing home here in my home town, for several years, and now presently doing private pediatric nursing for a little girl that is terminally ill. I also loved working with the elderly and I could tell you some really good stories about working with the elderly. I loved all my patients, and, I actually tucked some of my little ole people in bed and gave them a good nite kiss on the forehead, and learned very quickly which little old men patients to tuck in and run quickly from....LOL.... I really did, guess I am just a big ole softie at heart when it comes to children and old people! I really love nursing, but every once in awhile, I do have to take a break from it. I can be happy doing practically anything, as long as it's working with people.
Working with my patient that I have now...the little girl who is 14 years old terminally ill is a very psychologically draining case. It makes you realize how precious life is and how blessed we are that our children are healthy and normal. I have actually sat on the end of her bed (and still do at times) wondering why her and not some mean person...but it's not ours to question...all we can do is trust in God, and pray for his will to be done, and pray that the pain is not unbearable...
I am currently pursuing a degree in CIS (computer networking and microcomputer specialist). I want to be a computer nerd (much easier to lose a harddrive than a patient!!!!). I love to watch movies, fish (and yes, I bait my own hook, and even take off my own fish!), love football, and baseball! But my very favorite thing of all to do... Is to spend time with my grandchildren.... I love to cook, and really have to watch it, because, it's a constant battle of the bulge for me. Especially since I love to cook pies (pecan, especially... Yummmy!), cakes, and good ole country southern cooking (peas, butterbeans, fried okra, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, steak, bake potatoes, homemade buttermilk biscuits, etc... Yummmy! Got my mouth watering right now just thinking about it, just like my grandmother taught me to cook when I was a little girl.

I was married for 20 yr but have been divorced for the past 9 yr.
I have two boys, one 14 year old, going on 41 LOL, Brandon, who lives with his father, and one 26 yr old Randy, who has his own children. I have a 5 year old grandaughter named Summer (who will tell you that her Nannah cooks the best jello in the whole wide world! LOL) and a 7 year old grandson named Dalton.

When I was four, my mother married a military man, who lived in South Georgia, and so there is where I ended up. I may look Hawaiian, but, I have a very southern Georgia accent. I had not seen my father for 38 years and got to meet him in April 1995. I cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful and emotional it was..It was wonderful to see where I got my mannerisms and physical characteristics from (like my flat feet, my short fingers and toes, etc...)...I am so glad that I got to meet my biological father when I did, because, he is seriously ill...and I honestly don't know if I will ever see him alive again...
***Update on my father***On April 10, 2000,my father called to tell me goodbye...He died while in a coma... I am so thankful that I got to meet my father and spend time with him before he passed away. Time and love are so very precious, please don't waste your life...If you find someone that you love and that loves you back...hang on to them for dear life...

I did have a brother, named Robert William Benjamin...I was not aware that I had an older brother, till I was 16 yr old...He was a Captain in the army...I never got to meet him...he was sent to Viet Nam, via the US Army, and was killed ten days before he was to come home and meet me, on November 3, 1968...We did get to talk on the phone quite a bit...and he was really excited, as I was to meet the sibling that we never knew existed...I was really broken hearted over this...I went to visit the Viet Nam Memorial wall this past year, and got to see his name on it...It was one of the most emotional things, I have ever experienced!!!...He is buried in Honolulu, Hawaii, and I have never even been to his grave...one day, I do hope to visit it though...

This was my brother

I still have a sister named Bonnie Chong that lives in Hawaii somewheres...I have no idea where...I have never met her, and hope one day that I will...Who knows, maybe one day, we might just run into each other!!!

I do have three sisters, and one brother here in my home town...So..I do have siblings, close to me...

I have just recently aquired a little minature Dachhound (who thinks he is a St. Bernard)...name is Charley...He is a delightful, spoiled rotton little doggy...I think he should have been called Shadow....as he follows me everwhere!!!!

I guess I am a person that has experienced life, in many phases...never a dull moment with me...I had a professor in college one time that was always making us write stories...like:

What's the saddest thing that ever happened to me?
The saddest thing that ever happened to me was a couple of things...finding out my oldest son developed petit mall epilepsy...then the doctor thought he had cancer at 5 yr old...then getting hit by a car...then when he was 21, he got shot by a nail gun that his coworker dropped..but Randy is tough...thank God....then my youngest son trying to come into the world 4 months early...but I did hold him off so that he was only 2 months early...then he almost died of pneumonia when I took him home at only 4 1/2 pounds...and then one day I was bathing and his dad was supposed to be watching him, but somehow he managed to come into the bathroom, fell in the bathtub before I could catch him, and he almost drowned....guess with all the things that happened, and remembering feeling helpless because I did not know what to do to help...that is the REAL reason I went into nursing....
Now for the lighter side...
What was the funniest thing that ever happened to me????
I was pregnant with my oldest son...and the chinese in me was making me crave soy sauce like crazy...and did not have the first drop in the house...so as I was headed out the door...my husband (am divorced now) told me..whoa!!!...your pregnant...it's cold...so go get on a sweater, so you won't get sick...I went to the clothes dryer and grabbed my sweater, and out the door I went in search of soy sauce...well, the first store I went into, did not have it...but everyone sure seemed happy in there...laughing and all...so I went to another store...same thing...no soy sauce...but everyone in there sure seemed happy too!!!!...well I gave up the search and went home...as I walked in the door...my husband said...you did not go to the store like that did you????...I said yes...why????...he said, well go in the bathroom and turn around and look on your back...I did just that....and when I saw what was on my back...well, you could have heard me scream for 20 miles away...for on my back was a pair of my panties, clinging to my sweater with STATIC CLING!!!!...Years later, I told my son Randy about going to the store with my underwear on my back...and one day he came home from school and said "Mom, I have to write about a true funny story...can I write about you going to the store with your drawers on your back????...thinking "what could it hurt?" I said sure, why not???...Little did I know what would happen...one day I got a call from his school, asking me to come about my son...well when I got there...they ushered me into the school auditorium...my son's story had been entered in a statewide essay competition...and guess what????...he won!!!!...he got a certificate from the Governer of Georgia, won some money...and to top it off, the school posted the story about "his mom wearing her drawers on her back to the store!" at our local mall...with not only his name as the winner, but my name, as his mother who did that!!!!...never have I been soooooo embarrassed!!!...Oh well, what can I say....
So you see, never a dull moment with me!!!
Now below... Please meet my family!!!...And when you finish...Will you, please.....pretty please...with sugar on top...take the time to sign my page...and let me know how you enjoyed my page...and any suggestions you have for my page, as well????

This is my youngest son Brandon, He won a trip for Stock Markets in his class and the biggest part of his trip to him was to go to "Hooters". Can't you just see the look on his face "So what's the big deal with the Hooters girls?"
