Rick's TI-86 Top Ten Games Lists

The Top Ten Page features the top ten games (in my opinion) for the TI-86. These games are based on the categories of TI-86 ASM, TI-86 Compatible ZShell, and TI-Basic. Note: ZShell games may include Usgard and all other TI-85 Shells. Also, the ZShell games work with ASE v1.3, which you can get at the OS/Shell Page. Here's the Top Ten Lists.

Top 10 TI-86 ASM Games

Rank Game Developer Description

1

Sqrxz Jimmy Mardell and Andreas Ess SQRXZ is a bug that stars his own great game. This is a Mario-type game where you try to get to the end of each level (many add-on levels are available), while avoiding enemies and spikes, while collecting as many extra men and sausages as possible.

2

Super Mario 86 Bill Nagel A GREAT game where you are the old Nintendo mascot, Mario. The graphics are very good. This has a Super Mario Brothers III feel, as many of those features are included. It comes with the levels from Super Mario III, World 1, and also has a level editor, so you can make your own levels.

3

Joltima Justin Karneges ported by Bill Nagel Joltima is based on traditional style console RPGs and runs similar to that of Dragon Warrior for the original NES. This is a GREAT RPG. If you don't like this RPG, then you don't like RPG's.

4

Vertigo v0.93 Matthew Shepcar An AMAZING ASM game! You are a little ball rolling around a game field trying to get the gem. The 3D graphics and greyscale fields are astounding! This has to be the most comprehensive ASM Game ever! Also comes with a level editor.

5

Penguins Bill Nagel Penguins. One of the best games for the TI 86 in my opinion. Try to get the penguin to the end of each level. Kind of like a Mario type game. This game is very difficult, and takes some thinking. Don't worry, it is beatable, so don't get too frustrated. Add-on levels are available.

6

Frogger Trent Lillehaugen The traditional Frogger game for the TI-86. Try to get the frog across the streets, over the rivers, and into the holes to his home.

7

Squarez Jimmy Mardell Squarez is a simple puzzle game for the TI-86 where you move around different pieces on a board. The goal is to create 3x3 blocks, which will cause the block to disappear. It is very fun to challenge your friends in this game.

8

ZTetris Jimmy Mardell Tetris for the TI 86. You should know what tetris is. If not, you move the varying shaped pieces as they fall, trying to make lines at the bottom.

9

Sim Community 2000 Kirk Meyer You are a mayor of a small community. You have a 32 by 32 grid of land to work with to create your own personal empire. You will need to cater to every need of those who live in your community, the "sims".

10

Plain Jumper Andreas Ess Ported to TI-86 by Jimmy Mardell Steer your ball over a three dimensional plane that has a lot of gaps for you to jump over. Very addictive and fun. It goes rather fast, but it is another one that you can challenge your friends with.

1

Balloon Andreas Ess A GREAT game where you are a balloon trying to get to the end of the level while avoiding enemies, candles, pins, fans, and more. You can gain height with fuel and throw your rubber bands at the bad guys.

2

PlainJump 2 Andreas Ess A souped up version of the first PlainJump. A very fun and graphical game. Try to make your ball (more like a rock in this version) dodge and jump over holes. Comes with a PC level editor.

3

ZPong Pascal Bouron A great version of the classic Pong game. Hit the ball with your paddle and try to get your enemy to miss. Has one-player and two-player options, but the two-player link option doesn't work very well. Still, it is a great overall game.

4

JezzBall Magnus Svedin The goal is to win 75% of the screen; when you manage that you'll advance to the next level. To win space, draw lines, and if you manage to make a closed area without any ball in it, you win that area. Fun game and good time-consumer.

5

Othello Hakan Jettingstad Try to surround the computer's pieces so you can get his pieces. Ultimately, you are trying to have more pieces than the computer.

6

TechWarez IStar An AWESOME "Scorched Earth" or "Worms" type game. Try to shoot down all of your opponent's tanks using different weapons. Great for two players, but it also has a one player vs computer mode. All around great game!

7

MineHunt Steve Peterson A very fun puzzle game that is a bit like Minesweeper, but in this one, you are a tank that has to move around a minefield, trying to logically dodge the mines. If you like Minesweeper, get this.

8

Mario Terry Peng A pretty fun game where you are Mario and you are trying to get to the end of the level. Still in BETA, so there are no enemies and only one level so far. This can be a great game if done correctly.

9

Bombardment Ed Plese, Jr. An old two-player game of tank shooting. Enter the velocity and speed (taking account for the wind) and try to hit your opponent's ship. Great to have an all-out war with your friends.

10

Sokoban Andrew Von Dollen The classic game of Sokoban. The idea is to move all of the boxes into their proper places (dots) Seems simple, right? But the game is complicated by the fact that you can move only one box at a time and that you can only push and not pull the boxes. Comes with 50 levels.

Top 10 TI-86 Basic Games

G-Loc 86 Special Edition M.B. (a.brugger@tirol.com) The most innovative BASIC game that I have ever seen. This is a flight fighting sim. Great graphics, although choppy, but an overall great game. Now with 2 different views! Check it out.

2

Drugwars! Zool A new game of Drug Wars, but with a revolutionary new concept. Drugwars lovers will adore this game. Wheel and deal drugs around town in a brand new way. Great for hours of fun and laughs.

3

Casino 86 BK Software Finally, a casino game for the TI-86! Includes Blackjack, Video Poker, Slot Machine, and Roulette. Now doesn't take up so much space!

4

HicQuest 86 Steve Russell The TI-82/83 hit has been ported to the TI-86! You play a redneck warrior on a quest to achieve a 100% blood-alcohol level. Along the way you must battle all sorts of enemies, purchase weapons and vehicles, and of course patronize the local bar.

5

Faculty Showdown '98 v2.0 Final WyrmLord and Lord Ulf After a large school brawl, the faculty was locked up and forced to engage in battles. You are betting on which faculty member will win. Very fun to edit and make bets on the teachers at your school.

6

Horse Racing Dave Carlson Bet on your favorite horse and hope he wins. Just like going to the races, but this time it's on the calculator. Great fun for betting with all your friends.

7

Tic-Tac-Toe Jeff Buchman The author says: Tic Tac Toe is a fast paced adventure game! Oh, who am I fooling. TI-86 Tic Tac Toe is a fun little game to play with a friend during math class. The most outstanding feature is how it looks like it was written in assembly, yet it's not.

8

Stock Market 86 Calcguru A great game of buying and selling stock to make money. It is very complete, having many stocks, and is pretty fast for a BASIC game. Also has a neat graphing feature

9

Lights Out Ryan Palmer The game of Lights Out, where you try to turn out all the lights. A pretty good game that can get frustrating. Comes with many levels for hours of fun.

10

MasterMind BASIC Joshua Seagoe Probably the best MasterMind game for the TI-86. Try to guess the random 4-term sequence created by the computer. Each member of this sequence is represented by a letter, which in turn (referring back to the board game) represents a color.
