13 June 2001

Well, here I am again getting ready for sailing.
The difference is that now I have my Skipper's Certificate 60 (Israeli Ministry of Transport)
and I planned and will be the the skipper of the yacht.

This time we will be in the Saronic Sea Greece. That is the body of water (and islands)south of Athens.

I have put a down payment on the yacht. I contacted FyLy (www.fyly.gr) over the internet and they had a yacht
availiable from Monday to Monday. The flight over from Israel is Monday June 18, 2001 at 07:00. We will land
in Athens at 09:00 which is when the charter starts. We are returning the yacht on the night between the 24th
& 25th at 21:00.
Our flight out will be at 02:20. (so we should be back in time for my oldest daughters graduation...:)

The crew consists of myself, my wife Shana, one of our two daughters (who is 10) Naomi.
On who has made a delivery with me on the Agapi and his 7 year old son Nov. Yaacov & Yitzhak are brothers who
were in the skipper's course with On & me but do not have the sea-time needed for international certification.
So this will be their sea time.

We plan on buying some of the food here but the bulk will be bought in Greece.
The current itinerary is Athens (Kalamaki), Nosis Aigna, N. Poros, N. Idhra, N. Dhokos N. Spetsai, Epidavros,
K. Methanon, Korfos, and back to Kalamaki.

But it's not final. More as it happens. 11 July 2001 After reading what I have written I feel it is time to add a bit. The sail went quite well, and the basic idea of sailing the Saronic and even most of the itinerary was kept. Unfortunately Yael's (my oldest daughter) graduation cerimony was move from Tuesday to Sunday, so we had to make some changes because someone from our family had to be there. It was decided that we would return to Kalamaki (Athens) Friday, so Shana could catch a flight Saturday back home to be in time for the graduation. The itinerary was Kalamaki, Ormos Anavissou (SE of athens), Nisos Idhra, N. Dhokos, N. Poros, N. Aigna, Kalamaki, N. Salamis, Kalamaki. A total of 117 NM. Kalamaki -> N. Salamis was a 4 hour night sail. All other travel was done during daylight. Yaakov did not come with us for personal reasons (not anything to do with the crew). The price of the boat was 1500USD because of a mistake that Yitzchak found on the fyly website.
