James was a only child and did not have to go, he stood tall and proud of his country and fought for what was right for others and this he died for..
James is buried at Trinity Cemetery in the south part of Walker County near his home. His parents and grandparents are also buried there.

Spec.4 Clarkson Is Vietnam War Victim
Spec.4 James Lafayette Clarkson, the 22 year old member of a prominent Walker County family, has been killed in action in Vietnam, his parents were informed last Wednesday by Department of Defense.
Mr.& Mrs. Lafayette Clarkson of Rt2 LaFayette were told their son received fatal battle wounds Dec. 1 near Xuan Loc. He has been in Vietnam since April 6th.
Spec 4 Clarkson was 1966 graduate of LaFayette High School.
Honor graduate of North Georgia Technical School at Clarksville.
Spec 4 Clarkson trained at Fort Benning before being transferred to Vietnam.
Spec 4 James L. Clarkson, died with honor in the service of his country.
