My
Experience in Indonesia, 2
Another
Indonesian experience by Tim Richardson - this site is awesome, living
in Indonesia from the perspective of an expatriate...everything he discusses
is real (and more!!)
Ever since I began university I have liked most things Indonesian. Since then, I have managed to travel there four times during my university career and experienced all sorts of different people and situations. And now that I've began working again, I'll be off there again in October but only for 3 weeks this time :<
Of course, I don't
profess to like all things Indonesian. For one thing, I can't stand
dangut :P or how slow they walk, and sometimes I can't believe how lazy
Indonesians can be all the time. I mean, once in a while just sitting
back and doing nothing is ok, but all day every day?? What I guess
I like is their laidback attitude to life, faith, family, and their community.
All of this within a society divided by race and religion, which often
rear their ugly head. Sometimes I wish Western culture could remember
some of these things in their lives and stop being so materialistic, but
then that's just my opinion.
