UTTRAKHAND ASSOCIATION

Welcome to the Internet site of the Uttrakhand Association. This association was formed in Canada by people of the Uttrakhand. The high hills of Garhwal and Kumaon (Kurmanchal) constitute the territory of the Uttrakhand in the foothills of Himalyas.

Uttrakhand Association was formed in 1989 in Toronto, Canada. It now has over hundred families all over North America. The need to bring all the people of the Uttrakhand together in North America grew from the sense of loss of a society which was left behind in India. It was important to have an organization which instilled in our children the values which we the people of the hills believed in. This was important as the kids growing up in North America tend to forget there cultural and traditional background while keeping up with the fast paced lifestyle of the west. Many communities have come to this part of the world and have established organizations to keep their people in touch with their background. This is a small effort from us and we hope that we will succeed in achieving our aims.
