THE SWEDISH GARAND

AG42B Semiautomatic Rifle

This is the Swedish AG42B semiautomatic rifle. It was made in 1945 at the Carls Gustaf arms factory. The AG42, as it started life, has an amazing design history. With the advent of WW2, Sweden felt a need to increase their military firepower to ensure their neutrality. In a period of one year, the AG42 went from design, to prototype, to production. This is amazing considering the Garand took over ten years to do the same thing. It shares the same caliber as the Swedish Mausers, 6.5X55mm, and is IMHO probably the most accurate non-sniper / non-match rifle ever built. Many place it second only to the Garand, but I would be willing to argue that point of view.
