Since 1996, the Mexican Goverment declared a portion of the south west, south and a bit of the south east cost of Cozumel Island as a Marine National Park, it actually begins 250 meters south of the Cruise ships pier known as “Puerta Maya”(now days own by Carnival Cruisers), and finish in front of the Rasta’s restaurant and bar on the south-east tip of the Island, right at the entrance of the Punta Sur Ecological Park, covering in this way about 85% of the diving sites around the Island, including the maritime-terrestrial federal zone.

Intented to the preservation of the natural wonders that our 32 different sites (inside the park’s jurisdiction only) of the Park have been jealously guarding for centurys, we can assure that the upcoming generations of new divers will have the opportunity to admire and study them. The Park’s management activities are: Scientific Research, monitoring and conservation of the reefs formations and of the natural habitats. The Regulation of commencial Activities. Education for Environmental Awareness. Promotion of Ecological Tourism. Environmental interpretation and advertising, and Beach Cleaning Programs.
