The wedding program can serve many purposes and is by no means required. Couples who have complicated ceremonies in which the guests are expected to participate should probably provide a program for guidance. Other than that, you may choose to provide a program to recognize and thank your friends, family, wedding party members, or vendors; to provide your new address and phone number to guests; to provide a map and/or directions from the ceremony to the reception site; as a keepsake for friends and family; or to share special messages with your guests.
We chose to create our own program and modeled it after one done by our friends Stacey and Amy for their wedding. We created our program to serve several purposes. First, we wanted to create a keepsake for ourselves and our families. Second, we wanted to provide our mailing address, email addresses, and phone number to our guests. Finally, we wanted to recognize and thank our friends and families. The finished product appears on the next few pages. The wording, ceremony order, etc., will change as our plans become finalized, but the basic design will remain as you see it today.

| Binding: | The booklet is secured at the left side with one staple placed in the center, approximately one-half inch from the edge. Two holes are then punched on the same side, approximately one-half inch from the edge of the booklet, and a ribbon tied between them to hide the staple. Wider ribbon produces a fuller look, as the ribbon will gather at the holes. The ribbon can then be tied in a bow or a simple knot and trimmed. Wired ribbon will make a nice bow, although a simple narrow satin ribbon also looks lovely. If you are using a specific color scheme in your wedding, the ribbon can be coordinated to your colors. In this case you could even use several strands of very narrow satin ribbon in several colors. |
| Paper: | We will be using white card stock to print the front cover and a back cover which will be blank. The inside paper will be a paper of 20lb weight or more, most likely also in white. I have also seen this type of program done with regular paper or with thinner parchment paper. |
