2001 Trip List

Suwannee River Overnight August 3-5
The indomitable Jay Jakubasz is leading a trip on August 3-5 on the beautiful Suwannee River.
The plan is to meet at SR 6 (GA) and launch from there in the late afternoon of Friday August 3. It will be about 25 miles total, finishing on Sunday, August 5 at US 41/White Springs. We should be taking out at White Springs. Jay is checking on information about shuttles and will provide that information to those interested.
It is a full moon weekend. Also, be forewarned, there are shoals that will need to be traversed...and/portaged around. We will need to unload boats, walk them around the shoals, and resume the paddle. I have been told that it takes about 30-40 minutes to do that. Not to dissuade anyone after the information about portaging, ...this stretch is one of the most beautiful portions on the river, pretty much still undeveloped and not much traffic on the river. Lots of wildlife and birds.
level of difficulty: moderate
speed: leisurely (or as fast as you want to go) kayaks or canoes welcome
individuals will be responsible for their own gear and all meals. This is primitive camping, plan accordingly.
Any questions, contact Jay or Trish If anyone is interested, please ensure Jay or Trish know you are coming. If we don't know you are coming, you will be left.
