"mommy, mommy, MOMMY!"

(Poem of Kosovo - 1999)

cji

Verse 1
********

But there was no reply
As the mother, brothers
Father's, sisters, all
Except the child had
Already died;
And he was alone.

Verse 2
********

His life as he knew it
Was now not even a dream
Or an imagination of life;
But the reality of cruelty
That only man can do
To another man,
in the name of humanity.

Verse 3
*******

Thus these poems extend
Not from today or tomorrow's
Horrors, but of the day
Of infamy that each
Must go through immune
To those around them
Or as this child
A part from the cries
Of the child
Into the screams
Of the reality
That life is such;
That no matter what
Man will not listen
To the history
Or see the record
Of the immortality
Shattered into the pieces
Called dreams of eternity
For a child
Who now is an adult.

"The Identity of Death"

Verse 1
********

It is our home
We grew and played
And prayed
Had schooling
Made friends
Had families;
Now it is your battlefield
To experiment with
Weapons of war;
To gain time of combat
For your flyer's and soldiers.

Verse 2
********

It was our forever
Here on earth,
Now it is in death
And dying gasp's
For the breath of freedom
Which will never be known.

Verse 3
********

Don't mistake the blood
On your hands as innocent's
For innocent's is to not know
And surely with every fiber
Of you soul you know.

Verse 4
********

We too are not innocent
But it is our problem
With our solution;
Not the corruption
Of your president
To intervene.

Verse 5
*******

Let us write our
Solution if you will;
Let us have the identity
Of the death or life;
Where we were born
To live and die;
Not you, not another
The definition is ours; Not yours. . .

"Is it True, Father?"

Verse 1
********

My daughter now comes
With tear stained cheeks;
Wrinkled clothing;
Dirty hands and being,
Asking, "Is it true?"

Verse 2
********

I answer with tear
Filled eyes and soul,
"Yes, it is true my sweet,
it is just you and I."
Bursting into emotions
With no where to go;
No one to hug or ask
And taking my daughter's
Hand in mine to walk
Away from the bodies
Of my wife, son's
And daughter's;
With only this little one,
Asking, "Is it true?"

"Where is God?"

Verse 1
********

Thus from the lips
Of a child comes
The hardest question
To answer.

Verse 2
********

"My child this is not
His work of desire.
This is the evil of men
And of their secret
Combinations set to confuse;
For others to reject agency
Of which all men;
"When given a little
authority, exercise
unrighteous dominion."

Verse 3
********

As the clouds from
And great are the tears
>From heaven, even
The prophets knew
And warned,
But a wicked people
Will never learn;
Therefore all blame
A God, while men
Scorn - and laugh;
And the people suffer
Thus dying to the whim
Of the greatest gift
Of agency - to fail
The test of mortality.

Verse 4
********

"My child God is crying,
but it was our plan
to allow this to happen;
not another's, ours."

Verse 5
*******

"God is in our hearts,
and listens to our prayers;
thus touching us now."

"Is it Just Now?"

Verse 1
********

Again from the lips
Of a child comes
The difficult question,
"Is it just now, did we
do something wrong,
why is it our family,
is it just now?"

Verse 2
********

Thus history with
A mocking laughter
Smiles broadly,
"Saying it is always,
but you do not learn;
you think you can mock
me and deceive another.
But it is always been,
and always will be this way."

Verse 3
********

History continues,
"Since the dawn of me,
it has been and will
be this way,
you don't understand."

Verse 4
********

"You laughed and played,
while teachers failed
to teach of me, except
what they believed,
distorted and conceived;
in the gall of bitterness
a me even I could not believe."

Verse 5
*******

"No my child, it is not
just now, or tomorrow;
laughter and pillage
and the rape of man
is the joy of my memory,
left untaught in favor
that freedom is free,
and without cost."

"History Continues"

Verse 1
********

"You see I've always
been here for you
to learn and know;
but you see I'm evil
to be around,
as man refuses
to look into the mirrors
of reality today, yesterday
and gutless for tomorrow."

Verse 2
********

"The winners write of the war,
not the ones who lost.
Then when finally the loser
comes forth the hero
even in evil it is humor
at how gullible
man is in belief."

Verse 3
********

History then concludes,
"If you fail to learn
of the thorns and nails
required and death known.
The hatred of another,
while thinking of love
at home or within the fire;
I'll laugh and laugh
at the stupidly of the
sickness of your mind,
in not remembering me.
Who I've always been;
my child who cries,
you are not the first
and certainly
will never be the last."

Verse 4
********

"So seek to know
what is known;
you are without excuse
for today is yesterday
and again tomorrow;
for those who fail to learn."

"History Continues, Again"

Verse 1
********

"Thus you who read this
think of me as cruel?"

Verse 2
********

"I am only a reflection
of your inner, carnal desires;
as while today is Kosovo,
yesterday it was murder,
or rape, or robbery
or adultery, or lying;
know you not of this?"

Verse 3
********

"Don't blame me,
I'm here to read and learn."

Verse 4
********

"Look around and understand
my child, life is the refiner's fire;
not this game you play in school."

Verse 5
********

"If the harshness of this lesson
you think unfair, wait till tomorrow's
tomorrow, my laughter
you will be unable to bear."

Verse 6
********

"You asked, and now know.
What are you going to do?"

Verse 7
********

Laughing and cackling history
Now walks away into the day;
As people die and ask why,
Not knowing the answer
Has always been the same.
History didn't do a thing.
It was man to man;
seeking another's shame.

Verse 8
********

"Gone is the reason now,"
history turns one more time to say,
"For this child to ask why,
better the questions
of why not, because
you've learned not of me?

"mommy, mommy, MOMMY!"
(Part II)

cji

Verse 1
********

"Where are you?"
thus the child cries
into the night of forever;
as mommy is dead,
in his world,
knowing of no other.

Verse 2
********

To seek to console,
is to misunderstand
the child's cry.

Verse 3
********

For mother is a symbol
of the stability in life;
thus this child
is no longer a child
and life in no longer
a life, but a survival.

Verse 4
********

He has learned
the cruelest lesson
of the history of men;
"Who when given
a little authority,"
they know not how
to act responsibility
for others.

Verse 5
********

His cries will go unanswered
Into an endless, restless night.

Verse 6
********

The world will scream its indignation;
yet in the morning will wonder
of what to do today?

Verse 7
*******

"mommy, mommy, MOMMY!"
and no answer will
be heard without
the prompting's of the spirit;
unknown in history;
as it is taught today.
