"Going Forth"

C.J. Ingerson
2/2/99

Verse 1
********

It was at first little steps
that I entered the forest dense
not from fear of the unknown
but the wonder of where
and of how I would survive.

Verse 2
********

Not the same or was it
to come into a strange room
or be the new kid at school
yet it is the same thoughts
of how I would survive.

Verse 3
********

The first time at the dentist
or a needle in the arm or ...
just a few of the moments
when I wonder about my parents
and of how I would survive.

Verse 4
********

When the car broke at night
and no one was around
then I didn't know what to do
hoping for help, but also too
of how I would survive.

Verse 5
********

Some think we survive alone
but this is never the case
for we are never alone
not for a moment are we
for we could not survive.

Verse 6
********

Thus if we are not alone
then who is this with us now?
It is many and sometimes few.
Each is there when needed most
or else we could not survive.

Verse 7
********

You see what we are discussing
is the ability to have courage
and then the will to fight on
to face the dangers of life
a will to never quit, to survive.

Verse 8
********

But courage is more than this
it is the ability to stand
and be counted among those
who are the righteous ones
who hold to the truth to survive.

Verse 9
********

Yet in war we often see courage
on both sides of the the conflict
and this is the measure of man
that they become more when
they are with others to survive.

Verse 10
********

Now you must decide do you
have the material inside
to have both courage to do
and courage to share with others
so that all may justly survive?

Verse 11
********

It isn't just the walk in the forest
or the broken car in the darkness
or the new kid in the school
or entering a strange home or town
it is to sacrifice so others may survive.

Verse 12
********

Do we really have this thing called courage
or do we make believe when time are good?
Thus when the battle flows to and fro,
are we able to rally those around
to the point of being able to survive?

Verse 13
*******

To die is no great feat in mortality
for all will go that way someday.
It is to believe and to do for more
the better good that courage calls
not just to survive, but not to die.
