Poems written on 4/4/98 & 4/5/98 at General Conference:

Where are you?

C.J. Ingerson
4/4/98

Verse 1
********

"Where . . .
are you ... ?

Lonely my quest
to find but one
who like me
is seeking, searching
for the message
for the truth
for the eternal
when so much
is at stake,

Verse 2
********

for where
are you . . .?

As my hand
reaches into darkness
into deep pools
into the space above
as endless and timeless
this search,

Verse 3
*******

please come forth
identify yourself
for I might know
and you know
the depth of this search,
where are you . . .?

"Looking back . . ."

Verse 1
*******

How could I do different
each step, each plateau
planned, evaluated
sought for
as an Eternal Goal.

"It was . . .

Verse 1
*******

"It was . . .

but a strange
and twisting trail
meandering
filled with ox-bows
back tracks
un-found finishes

Verse 2
********

for where
was I going
and knowing not
the goal
was to take
any path
for it mattered not
that it was
but a strange and twisted trail . . ."

Scattered

Verse 1
*******

The leafs on the ground
helter - skelter
or so it seemed
blown by the wind
and matted by rain
but eternal the round.

Verse 2
********

For as in life
as in death
to provide for another
this as we go before
and also come after
eternal in concept
is a life
found in our second estate;

Verse 3
*******

but 1st worthy
now to be worthy
to seek to know
to become to do
the will of Father
is the Eternal Plan
the goal of the
Plan of Salvation,
as even the leafs
are scattered . . .

"The Pool"

Verse 1
*******

Looked deep
too deep
for to dive
would be
to be lost

Verse 2
********

for knowing
not this pool
we would know
neither hot or cold
safety or harm
so we dove not

Verse 3
********

though laughed
and scorned at
it was not a goal
to detour into
this unknown pool
whose nature
was not known.

Verse 4
********

So while others
dive or jump
and frolic
about the world
I seek known harbors
of clearly defined goals
monitored by Father
for my eternal salvation
which are not found
in the pool.

"Looking Up"

Verse 1
*******

My head tilts back
glancing at the sky
seeing beyond
my ability to see

Verse 2
********

no one else
in my family
had gone so far
into the balance of heaven
to see beyond stars
and moons
and planets

Verse 3
********

to see beyond
of my past
of my future
of my eternal potential

Verse 4
********

who resided
1st with Father
2nd with my family
3rd if worthy with both
beyond this now most thin veil,
just now seen when looking up.

"Why, Why ...?"

Verse 1
*******

Really is not
the question of why,
known is the reason
for when planning
is thoughtfully done
goals are set
results are known.

Verse 2
********

No the question
is not why,
but rather -
where to next?
what must be done?
who do I wish to become?
how can I improve?

Verse 3
*******

These the stimuli
for tomorrow
will surely come
and today will be yet
another yesterday
and better to ask
why not than why
to do than to dwell
to be all
and not less,
because of why.

"My Heavenly Father . . .

Verse 1
*******

"My Heavenly Father . . .

sent me here
He knows my name
He knows my potential
he knows me intimately
strengths, weaknesses
He knows that I know
He knows.

Verse 2
********

While yet another also knows
and would deceive, trick
and confound me
if I would allow.
But this cannot be for I know
what is expected
when the Veil is thin

Verse 3
*******

for forever
is not for the weak
or eternity
for those who finish not
the journey.
For Father sent me.
He knows my name . . .
And I know His.

"A Twinkling of the Eye"

Verse 1
*******

Not much time
to seek this quest
called life
called mortality
to find, to know
a self, a wife
my family
a mission
called to from above.

Verse 2
********

But known this quest
not random
nor idle
important was
my Patriarchal Blessing
my Baptism
to read the scriptures
to know of my Elder Brother

Verse 3
*******

to forgive and let go
to continue on
to endure to the end
for much is expected
where much is given,
time can’t be wasted,
must be planned.
For there is not much time
in the twinkling of the eye.

"The Window Opens"

Verse 1
*******

As my Bishop spoke
and said, "this is what,
but it doesn’t
seem part of this,
goals, something on goals."
And thus the window
opened wide
and my pen
raced to the paper
furious to write

Verse 2
********

thought not thought
but flowing from
a zephyr which through
the window open
gently brushed
my mind this day and all days

Verse 3
*******

for the Spirit is always there
just outside the window
and all I need do
is open the window
and invite It in.
Obedient to my Bishop
these are to his request
and prompting, on goals.
