Awarded #1 Unit Overall in Area 12!!




The Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (N.J.R.O.T.C.) Warhawk Battalion at Henry County High School in McDonough, GA is the largest unit in the county. In the unit's 2002- 2003 school year it was selected as a Distinguished Unit with Honors program. This means that the unit is in the top 10% of all 565 NJROTC units nation-wide. The unit was also awarded as the #1 overall unit in Area 12 by the Area Manager, Commander Hibbard. Also, the unit was named the third best unit in the nation by the Navy League this past school year. The unit has provided a program with a wide variety of activities so that each cadet can find their own area of interest, be it Drill Team, Color Guard, Rifle Team, Academic Team, or Athletic Team. The unit has also stressed the importance of community involvement this year, including such worthwhile causes as the annual Veteran's Day Parade, Christmas Canned Food Drive, and service projects. Of course, these are in addition to the traditional events, such as the Military Ball in March, field meets, and an orientation trip. In past years the cadets traveled to Fort Sumter, the site where the Civil War began. After viewing this relic the cadets moved on to Patriot's Point where they toured the U.S.S. Yorktown, a submarine, a destroyer, and a Coast Guard cutter. This year our cadets were honored to accepts a trip to tour and view the commisioning of the USS Momsen in Panama City, Fl.
