The
Astronomy Club of Augusta held its annual picnic at
Members
begin arriving shortly before 6 to find David Boyd and his daughter already
there at the observatory. A few clouds and very warm temps offered a nice
setting for the picnic.
As promised
by John there was plenty of food to be enjoyed by who ever could attend. John
brought his grill for hotdogs and
burgers and had BBQ chicken. Ray brought his famous potato salad and a few chix wings. Dot (invited by Ray so she could take the
minutes - haha) brought her cornbread pudding dish.
Along with our birthday cake Kenneth brought some delicious Danishes to be
enjoyed for desert. Lots of chips and
drinks were there for everyone. No one left the picnic hungry!
After
eating and chit chatting we began to look upwards to the sky. Mark had his
camera set up. John began tutoring Emma on the use and care of the scope he had
set up. Ray began pointing out stars and constellations with his new pointer. David Boyd focused his big telescope on Saturn
for those to view who were interested. The “Observatory Show” was cut short due
to David’s call to work. This however did not hinder our overall enjoyment of
the evening.
Not much
else to say about the picnic other than those who did attend seemed to have a
good time and left with a full belly. Shortly after dusk people begin gathering
their belongings and by 9:30 everyone was packed and leaving.
A good time
was had by all!!!
