if i were you
i wish we could changes shoes
because i would make you feel
unpretty too
i was told i was beautiful
but what does that mean
when you're never secure in relationship
because your man is always in between
my outside look happy
but my insides are blue
feeling so ugly about myself
and it's all because of you
other women can't offer
what i have to give
while you're out having fun
my heart feels like it can't live
when you need someone to be around
i'm always there
but at those times
what happened to
which one was it ?
the one with the long hair?
games people play and i still stay the same
but at the end of the day
i have myself to blame
it was i who was pretty
and you who was not
being with those other ones
just make me available
and more hot
back out on the market
this is true indeed
while you're with on one
it is i who did succeed
and i am pretty........
PRETTY GOOD CHANCE: The year is almost three-quarters over, and so far no artist has had two No. 1 hits on The Billboard Hot 100. That could change next week, if TLC can advance just one position.
The Atlanta trio, which spent four weeks at the summit with "No Scrubs," jumps 4-2 with "Unpretty" (LaFace/Arista).
But if the second single from the "Fan Mail" album is going to reach pole position, it will have to overcome Enrique Iglesias' "Bailamos" (Overbrook/Interscope), on top for a second week, and resist the challenge of "Lost In You," the single by Garth Brooks (as Chris Gaines) that enters the Hot 100 at No. 5, good enough to be the highest-debuting single of the year.

Billboard "Unpretty" Single Review
TLC
``Unpretty'' (4:01) LaFace
The follow-up to TLC's No. 1 smash ``No Scrubs'' changes the pace and direction of that sassy
ditty, with a message song about the importance of discarding all the trappings of external beauty
and looking inside for what really counts: ``You can buy your hair if it won't grow/You can fix your
nose if you say so/You can buy all the make-up that Mac can make/But if you can't look inside
you/Find out who am I, too/Be in a position to make me feel so damn unpretty.'' We're looking at
another across-the-board winner here, complemented by a contemporary shuffle beat and cool,
midtempo pacing, commandeered by producer Dallas Austin, who wrote this tune with TLC
member T-Boz. No reason to give this one even a shadow of a doubt. From the multi-platinum
album ``Fanmail.''
UK Single Report: UNPRETTY (TLC)
Not for the first time in their career TLC have the task of following up a
massive hit single that during its life managed to buck just about every
chart trend going. No Scrubs was first released at the end of March and made
an impressive start, charting at Number 7 first week out. When it dropped to
13 the following week you could have been forgiven for accepting that it was
just another here today and gone tomorrow hit of which the charts are full
these days. Not so as the following week the single was back in the Top 10,
embarking on a run that would see it peak at Number 3 and spend a total of 16
weeks inside the Top 40. Now in the past TLC have been occasional one hit
wonders, their last single to experience a similar level of success - Creep -
was followed by the release of Diggin' On You which could only make Number 18
in November 1995. Of course this is to reckon without the many hidden gems of
the Fanmail album of which Unpretty is possibly the brightest. With this new
single the three superstars move even further away from their R&B roots and
into the field of mainstream pop with the sad tale of the woman made to feel
unattractive by the unkind comments of her man. So progressive is the
production that it could well be the first ever New Jill Swing single to
feature a guitar solo. Unpretty could well stand up as one of the most
magnificent singles of the year and this Top 10 placing is the very least
that it deserves.
